I live in Delhi. It has a big railway station. I went to the station to receive my friend. He was coming from Punjab. I bought a platform ticket and went in. My friend's train was late by forty minutes. So, I decided to take a look around. There was a huge crowd on the platform. At the windows of the booking office there were long queues of people. They were buying tickets for their journey. At enquiry window also there was big crowd. The hawkers were shouting at the top of their voice. They were selling food, tea, newspaper etc. Soon, I saw the train coming. My friend came out and he was very happy to see me. We came home in an autorickshaw.

Babar, the first conqueror and emperor of the Mughal  dynasty in India, was so charmed by the beauty of India  that he proclaimed that if there was any heaven on earth,  it was here, it was here (in India). That was the charm, the grandeur and beauty of the country. It was this beauty and grandeur that had ever attracted people from across the Himalayas to come down to India.   Right from the advent of Aryans, down to the tourists of today, India had her attraction which drew them over the ages to this land of diversities even in its natural shapes and its varied topography and climates.  From the snow covered peaks of the Himalayas to the sun-soaked beaches of the south or the Western Ghats; from the charming and pleasant hill resorts like Simla,  Kulu, Manali, Nainital, Mussorrie, Daijeeling, Ooty to the majestic Rajasthan — the Pink city more...

History is my favourite subject. I enjoy other school subjects also. But I enjoy learning History the most. Mathematics is the subject I least enjoy  History is a record of the past. It tells us of the great people and what they did. It tells about, the people responsible for the various discoveries adventures, wars, and our progress. History helps me in understanding the present in the light of the past. It helps me develop my power of thinking. A person without knowledge of History cannot have a good judgment. He cannot judge events and incidents. No doubt History has many names and dates But they are all so interesting. History is the record of man's progress through the ages. I have good collection of history books. Some day, I might even write such a book myself. History has widened my outlook.

I have a pet dog. Its name is Goldey. It is four years old. It is brown in colour. It has four legs, two eyes, I wo ears and a nose. It has sharp teeth and a long tongue. It has a small tail also. It is of normal height. It is very active, smart and alert. My dog eats meat and bread and licks milk. It eats only when I give him food. It is of a German breed called Spitz. It is a faithful dog. It guards our house. It barks at the strangers. Sometimes it licks my hands and sits in my lap. My dog can run fast. It also knows how to swim. My pet dog is named Rocki. It is very intelligent. It loves me very much. It follows me when I go out for a walk. It has a great smelling power. It does more...

My favourite animal is the horse. It is a very useful and beautiful animal. The children in particular love to see it. It has a smooth, shining body. It has a long tail and hard hoofs which can enable it to walk speedily on roads. A horse is a very useful animal. It is generally used for riding purposes arid sometimes as a beast of burden. Since earliest times, horses have been used for various purposes and to draw the chariots of kings and other royal personage and carts for other people. A horse is a smart, swift-moving animal. In the battle between Alexander and Porus, one important factor for Alexander's victory was that he used horses and infantry whereas the army of Porus was on the backs of elephants which were too heavy and slow in movements as compared to horses. Even in the two important battles of Panipat, more...

Lal Bahadur Shastri was born in 1905 in Prayag. Hisfather Sharada Prasad, a schoolteacher at the local school, passed away when Lal Bahadur was barely a year and ahalf. Growing up without a father forced Lal Bahadur to accept responsibility at an early age. He was sent by hisancle to Varanasi to pursue his studies. After a short stay with a family that treated him unkindly, Lal Bahadur stayed with a teacher, Mishraji. Mishraji oftensat and told stories about how India lost her freedom to the British to young Lal Bahadur. These conversations laternspired Lal Bahadur to join the struggle for Indianreedom At about this time Gandhiji came to Varanasi and spoke of his non-cooperation movement. Lal Bahadur took a keeninterest in the growing movement and when the time came to boycott the schools, he did so by not appearing or his examinations. With just one year left for his more...

Our country is very rich in fruits. They are of many kinds, shapes and sizes. They also have different smells, tastes and colours. The Mango is the national fruit. It has been cultivated in India since time immemorial. There are over 100 varieties of mangos in India, in a range of colors, sizes, and shapes. Common in the tropical part of the world, mangos are savored for their sweet juice and bright colors. People in India eat mangos ripe, or prepare them green as pickles or chutneys. They are rich in vitamin A, C, and D. The poet Kalidasa sang its praises. Alexander the great savoured its taste, as did the Chinese pilgrim Hieun Tsang. Akbar planted 100,000 mango trees in Darbhanga, known as Lakhibagh. I like fruits. But mango and cherries are my favourites. I relish them the most. I also like mango-juice, pickle and jam. There are many more...

List Sunday, Rani came to my house. We decided to visit to zoo. At about nine we reached the Zoo. We bought the tickets and entered the gate. A zoo is indeed a world in itself. It is a world of wild animals and birds, made artificially by man. Sparrows and parrots of different kinds and colours were the first to welcome us. There were also pigeons and cuckoos of different breeds. The deer and the monkeys were wandering freely. They were kept in a small wood bounded by a stream. My friend was frightened to see a crocodile. The tigers looked awful basking in the sun. There is no denying the fact that a visit to the zoo is indeed a thrilling experience. It will always remain fresh in my memory.

There was a time when my Motherland, India, was considered a 'Golden Bird'. This was because of its riches, vast natural resources and the great, bright future it was expected to have in store. Our rich, cultural heritage, old civilization and vast knowledge in every aspect of life had endeared India and Indians even to the outside world. No wonder, foreigners had been taking keen interest inus right from the dawn of their awakening. But alas! It is all lost now. Gone are the days of past glory, riches, reverence and attraction. The country has witnessed a sharp decline in its over-all image and we have now become a nation, inviting mockery, neglect and indifference from outsiders. India of my dream is, naturally, the same ancient land, full of peace prosperity, wealth and immense knowledge. I want to see it free from the problems that are bringing bad name, destroying more...

The lion is a wild animal. It is our national animal. It belongs to the species of the tiger, the leopard and the wolf. He is the strongest beast. So he is called the king of the jungle. It belongs to the cat family. It lives in the forest. We can also see it in zoo. It walks very royal speed. It is a very strong and brave animal. The lion has strong jaws and paws. It has very sharp teeth. Its neck is covered with thick hair. The lion lives for about sixty years. Lions are kept in the zoos in iron cages. They are very dangerous. But there is some nobleness in them. A she-lion is called lioness. They are generally reddish-brown or golden in colour. It is a fearless animal. He kills the animals only when he is hungry. They hunt zebras, deer and buffaloes. It roars more...
