*     Using Tools   Using the different tool on the toolbar, you can create different shapes and give an artistic effect to your drawings. Suppose you want to make a birthday card for your friend. You can do this job with the help of Paint Brush.         *      Drawing Boxes   You can use the Rectangle tool to draw rectangular shapes like boxes.     *      Steps are the following:  
  • Click Rectangle.                        
   
  • Click a colour in the Colour box. 
   
  • Then click a rectangle style in the options box just below the toolbar. You can create a coloured fill by clicking a fill style can just use the outline option.
   
  • To draw a rectangle/drag the pointer diagonally in the direction you want. v  To draw a square, hold down shift while dragging.  
  *    Drawing a Free-form Line   It is not necessary that your picture should have only straight lines. You can use the Pencil tool to draw thin, free form lines or  curves.             *      The following are the steps:  
  • Click Pencil  
   
  • Click a colour in the Colour box.
  • Drag the pointer in the picture to draw.  
  *    Drawing a Straight Line   You can use the Line tool to draw a straight line. (See Figure 3.9.6)          *      The following are the steps:

  • Click a line width in the options box just below the toolbar.
  • Click a colour in the Colour box.
  • Drag the pointer in the picture to draw the line.
  • Use the left mouse button to draw with the foreground colour.
  • To draw a line using the background colour, right-click while you drag the pointer.
  • You can draw a perfectly horizontal, vertical or diagonal line by holding down shift while dragging.

*    Starting Paint Brush     Paint Brush is a program used to draw, colour and edit pictures. You can use Paint Brush like a digital sketchpad to make simple pictures. Let us begin to work with Paint Brush. (See Figure 3.9.1)         *    To open Paint Brush,

  • Click All Programs
  • Click Accessories
  • Finally click Paint.
      When you start Paint Brush, you see a window that is mostly blank, with just a few tools for drawing and painting. The Toolbox contains different tools required for drawing, erasing and coloring. You can also see a colour palette from which you can select any colour for your drawing. The central white portion is called the drawing board where the pictures can be drawn. (See Figure 3.9.2)     The Colour box indicates the current foreground and background colours. To paint with the selected foreground colour, drag the pointer. To paint with the selected background colour, right-click while you drag the pointer. To change the current foreground colour, click an available colour square. To change the background colour, right-click an available colour square. *           Introduction       Reading story books without pictures would be dull and boring. In this chapter you will learn about an application with which you can make your own pictures in the computer. Paintbrush is a drawing program that is included with Microsoft Windows. It is a simple graphics editing program. Drawings created in this program can be used as wallpaper for your computer. Files created in Paint Brush are saved as bitmap files. The default file extension of a bitmap file is .bmp.                                                                    

*        How to Format a Floppy Disk   Floppy disks are great idea for saving important information like picture is documents, books, notes and articles. First the new floppy disk has to be format so that it saves the information floppy your computer. Even if a pre-formatted flop is purchased you still might have to format it to work on other personal computes.                        *   The steps to follow are the following:  
  • Insert a floppy disk into the floppy disk drive.
  • Double-click My Computer icon.
  • Right-click the icon for the floppy disk drive, usually labeled 3 1/2 Floppy (A:).
  • Select Format from the menu that appears.
  • Click Start.  It should take several minutes for the computer to format the floppy disk.
  • Once the disk is formatted you can start saving your important files to the floppy disk.

  • In this menu, place the pointer on new option and click it. And you will see one more menu.
  • Now click folder.
As a result, you will see a new folder on the desktop. Type a name for your folder. If you do not indicate a name, it will: assume the name New Folder. You can also change the name of this folder later if you want.
