Morning Walk

Category : Essays

For a few days I woke up around 6 o'clock. It became a habit with me. Up and down I started walking on the terrace. Then I thought why not go out for a morning walk.

An early morning walk is so refreshing. It invigorates our body and prepares us for the day's work. I walk briskly. The air is pure, cool and fresh. I go alone. If   go with someone, talking becomes necessary. I prefer walking alone. I can then keep my thoughts to myself and enjoy the nature around. What makes me happy is the activity of birds. Their chirping is sharp and melodious. They seem 10 be preparing to welcome the rising sun.   go to a hill garden which has its up and downs—that give me exercise.

The very sight of greenery in the garden cheers me up   Small dew drops on petals and leaves look like precious pearls. At times I take off my shoes and walk bare foot on the wet grass—people say this is good for the eyes. But I must take care there are no thorns on the way.

Sometimes I sit down on the marble bench to relax;   I can close my eyes in relaxation. I hear people moving by conversing in different tones—if the subject is political, pitch rises. I am able to think afresh and rearrange my priorities. Strange, a new strength gets injected into my body.

Meantime, the sun seems peeping out at the horizon. Its rays slantingly reach us. I find some People wishing the rising sun. Other closes their eyes and faces it. Close by temple bells are heard. I return home after about an hour of outing and change of environment.

Has the time spent first thing in the morning been worth the while?
