Honesty is the Best Policy

To talk of honesty when corruption, chaos and cheating is rampant seems extremely bizarre and out of date. Yet the saying remains tested by time over the years and generations. Honesty still remains one of the greatest virtue in a man. Pope had once said 'An honest man is the noblest work of God." But it seems today it is not only the noblest but rarest work of God- Honesty today has become a rare thing to see. Rather it is found only in books on value education, moral stories of the older centuries and in religious books.

To be honest, needs enough courage and demands a person to be true to his own self. To be true in Turn needs a lot of inner strength and courage which people generally lack. Hence, they shy away from the prospect of getting caught in the midst of a mess or being courageous enough to be honest if they have made mistakes. Thus, the easiest way is to resort to deceit and lies. Honesty thus becomes a thing to be read in books only.

Yet, the best possible way to deal with people in day to day life is through honesty. One cannot survive for long in daily dealings with people—whether in business or on a personal basis with lies, tricks and cunningness for a long time. It is only with honesty and truth that one can think of creating lasting relationships of any kind with the people around. If a person wants to be successful in every sphere of life, the only policy that he can implement without any apprehension is the policy of honesty.

Honesty is one virtue which can help you out of any situation. It is only through honest dealings that a person can make his way up the social ladder. Talking of honesty may sound very foolish in the. modern age. It may sound silly to talk of honesty as a means of achieving success. Whatever people may think and wherever the world may go and to whatever heights it may reach, honesty will still remain the most valued and treasured of alt virtues.

When talking of honesty, one should not think of honesty in a narrow or circumscribed sense. Honesty is not needed in matters of money or financial dealings alone. Honesty rather should be thought about in a more wider, broader and universal scope. True honesty is reflected in thoughts, words, deeds and actions. This honesty is, in turn, reflected in human relationships and in one's love for what is true and just.

In order to be honest, a person has to first and foremostly learn to be honest and true to one's own self. This is very much required because a person can run away from everything else but not his own self in the world. If one wants to be honest to others, one has to learn to be true to himself first. Only then he can think of being honest with others. One has, therefore, to be true to himself then be honest with fellowmen, his own society or nation and then to other countrymen as well- When one learns to be honest, then only can one find true happiness, contentment and true success in life.

Thus, the best way to conduct oneself in life is to adopt the path of honesty. Truth and honesty in turn beget trust, confidence, peace, harmony and happiness. Even if a person leads a dishonest life, in the long run at some point of time in this life, he is finally overpowered by his conscience and he then suffers for every act of his dishonesty.

Success achieved by trickery and dishonest means may come very quickly and easily but it can never be everlasting. Success achieved in all spheres of life through honesty alone stays forever, for it brings along with it peace, joy and contentment.
