Freedom

Category : Essays

Freedom is often spoken of in what can be referred to as a 'loose sense.' One country has more freedom than another; a twenty-one year old has more freedom than a fifteen year old, but what exactly does this word, which is so often flippantly used, mean? Or, if this conclusion cannot be reached, what does it not mean? For different people it may mean different things, but there has to be an equilibrium that can be reached in order to determine the meaning of freedom itself.

In one form, freedom can mean that a person has 'exemption from an obligation.' In another way, it can be interpreted that one is 'not under the control or power of another.' Perhaps it can be defined as having the liberty to choose who/what the ruler is to be. For, since nothing can exist without having some form of rule, if people were not permitted to choose what the ruling factor is, then that nation would not be considered having freedom.

Through this, it can be concluded that freedom, possibly, is not simply the ability to be able to do whatever it is that you want, and it is not simply being liberated from the power of another. It can also be concluded that one of the definitions of freedom could possibly be the liberty to choose the ruler.

However, it is possible that it is unfeasible to ever obtain the exact definition of freedom. How can one measure the meaning of freedom without understanding the torment of confinement.

Yet for some, the confines of freedom lie within. When you feel that homework, too many social problems, or even an overall lack of friends is overwhelming you, you begin to doubt your abilities, you separate yourself from others so that, in your mind, they can no longer hurt you. That is when you begin to be reduced. If the melancholy in your mind doesn't drive out, you begin to look at suicide as an option, an end to all your problems.

So please, before that illusionary walls break and mortar solidifies, talk to someone, get help, and don't throw away your life in this miserable search for something you think you understand. For in the end, you have solved nothing. Sometimes we feel that freedom is really not free for a couple of reasons. The first reason is because of freedom of choice. Sometimes the freedom of choice is violated in many ways. For example, in many households the freedom of choice is not included. You may be saying to yourself 'well that's not a big deal', but for some kids and adults it is a big deal. Some kids aren't ready for the responsibilities. Many adults think their kids need to take on some responsibilities to get ready for the real world, and they do need to, but kids don't think it is fair.

Adults usually don't give their children any choice in life such as chores and children usually get upset or mad and by doing this kids grow up to have bad attitudes. Also some adults that grew up the same way that their children did also pressure their kids the way that they grew up.
