Five years ago there were floods in Assam. After themonsoon which lasted almost a month and a half the Filly of Guwahati was left flooded with rain water. Thedrainage system was not sophisticated enough to take The gallons and gallons of water that began to flood the roads.

Soon the flood water set into houses and with the passing of time many houses were simply submerged In the water. People were seen stranded on the terracesof their homes and seeking shelter in the tallest-mostbuildings in the city.

But this also could not last too long - people ran out of food and drinking water and soon the army came to

Assist the people of Guwahati.

Boats were provided for people to row themselves to safety. The army planes dropped food parcels for the People to eat. The main task was to rescue all the peoplewho had been stranded in their tall shelter points.

Once that was done, doctors began to attend to thesepeople. Every flood leaves many people suffering fromvarious water and food borne diseases.

Cholera, Jaundice, Dysentery and Malaria cases filled all the hospitals. Medicines were sent from other states

And even the W.H.O. and other countries sent supplies of food and medicines.

Social organizations like the Mahila Mangal, the Rotary Club, the Lions Club and various schools and college Teamed up to raise funds to send to the flood - hit area there was a lot of money flowing into the Prime Minister's relief fund.

This money was sent for flood relief from the Prime Minister's office. After a great deal of loss of life and Property, the army managed to control the situation and bring many hundreds of families to safe place Where they could wait before the fury of the monsoon would abate and life would normalize once again.
