Introduction. Delhi is the biggest polluted and crowded metropolitan fitly of India. People face many sorts of problems here. But, these days pollution is the greatest menace to mankind. All our achievements and advancement become useless if we cannot get fresh air to breathe. Earlier In Delhi all the oil based vehicles used to emit tons of soot and smoke, (hereby polluted the environment of the city. Our city environment was in the constant grip of filth, squalor and garbage.
Petition Against the Polluting Units. In order to get rid of this problem a famous advocate and an environmentalist, Sh. M.C. Mehta filed  a suit in the Supreme Court in 1985. Following the Supreme Court orders, all the old vehicles and industrial units were given notices to shift their such units outside the city.
Conversion of DTC buses in CNG. The Supreme Court emphasized On the use of unleaded petrol in the vehicles plying on Delhi roads. On 28th July, the Supreme Court issued order to convert all the DTC buses Into CNG non-polluting, latest by 31st March, 2001.
Problems. New approaches always face a lot of problems. In the Beginning bus operators agitated against the implementation of CNG in private buses. The govt. could provide only a few CNG filling-stations. Long queues of vehicles could be seen on the filling stations. Commuters had to stand for a long time at bus stands. On 1st April, 2001 only a few CNG vehicles were on the roads. That day Delhi was in a state of flux. Only a few CNG buses were plying and passengers were seen sitting on the roofs of the buses. The frustrated people damaged around 8 buses on 
that day. But the govt. was helpless. Considering all these problems, the Supreme Court somehow extended the time from 31st March to 30 Sept. 2001 for the conversion of all Delhi buses into CNG buses.
Advantages and Disadvantages. CNG vehicles are non-polluting and eco-friendly altogether. After the implementation of CNG there is a sharp decrease in the pollution level. But, CNG vehicles have some disadvantages also. First of all CNG kit is very expensive. The CNG filling stations are limited in numbers. Sometimes overloaded buses catch fire also.
Completion. Inspite of all these problems, CNG is the best solution to keep Delhi pollution free city.
