Very often we read or hear about road accidents. The carelessness of the people adds to their number. Some accidents can be easily forgotten but it is not easy toin get a witnessed accident wherein a life is lost.

Every morning I take my school bus from the bus standwhich is close to a crossing. One morning as always was waiting for my school bus when this accidentroccurred. One bus crossed the amber light just as it turned red. The traffic policeman on duty blew his whistle loudly but the bus driver did not stop.

The traffic on the side roads had begun to move. Oneboy riding a motorbike seemed to be in great hurry. He moved ahead of all the other vehicles with anunexpected start.

In this move he did not notice the speeding bus and before he could apply the brakes the bus hit him. With a jerk the boy was thrown into the air before he fell 'on the road. His helmet which he hadn't fastened came off. His head hit the ground and he lay still.

The motorbike was pulled to a distance by the bus before it stopped. Screams and shouts filled the air for a whil the traffic policeman dashed towards the bus driver.

Many people including the passersby gathered around the boy. No one dared to touch him as he lay in a pool of blood gasping for air.

Luckily the police squad in their Gypsy van who were close behind in the moving traffic came to the rescue. They called for an ambulance over their wireless and cleared away the gathered crowd.

An ambulance came surprisingly soon but unfortunately, the boy had already breathed his last few bus passengers who suffered minor injuries were given a quick first-aid. The boy was taken away by the ambulance. The bus driver was arrested.

The traffic was held up for more than an hour. My school bus was no where in sight and I decided to return home. I kept thinking about the dead boy.

Only if the bus driver was careful, only if the boy had put on his helmet properly, this accident would not

Have occurred and even if it did the boy would not have died.
