Exhibitions are held in many districts by the government. The Aligarh exhibition is very famous. I along with my brother went to see it. There was a great rush of tongas, motorcars and rickshaws. There was noise as well as dust. I saw a large number of tents outside the exhibition. They belonged to the officers and rich men. They were fenced. I went along the road which, was sprinkled with water. We reached the gate of exhibition. It was A o'clock in the evening. As we went in, we saw shops on both sides of the road. They were very beautifully decorated. The things in the shop were put in a tempting manner. Roads came from all directions and met at this place. Under  a small tower stood the policeman, to control the mela. We reached the centre of the exhibition ground. Many people were buying things from different more...

The recess period comes usually in the middle of the school hours. Its object is to allow some time to the teachers and the taught to refresh themselves mentally and physically. Sometimes before the recess period. The students feel bored. They become inattentive to the lessons. They no longer follow the teachers. They grow tired of their lessons. They look forward to the recess period. Some of the naughty boys approach the school peon and ask him to ring the bell. All this shows that change is badly needed. As soon as the recess bell goes, all the students shut their books and put them in their bags. They go out. This action of the boys sometimes makes the teacher angry But they cannot help it. They want to be free for some time. They wish to remain away from the dull atmosphere of the class. When the students come more...

Plastic bags have really posed a great problem these days. They have replaced paper and jute bags which are less durable and beautiful. On the contrary, plastic bags and packets do not perish and are attractive to look. Plastic containers are being widely and extensively used in most of the states of India. They are used to carry any kinds of items like groceries, vegetables, fish, fruits, flowers and lots of other essential items. The use of plastic bags and        packaging has created different problems because plastic is not biodegradable, so they cause environmental pollution of a great degree. Burning of plastic bags creates intense air pollution leading to foul smell which is injurious to health. If thrown into drains, they will choke them. They will make the land unploughable and infertile. Excessive use of plastic bags and containers has made jute bags redundant which has almost more...

Famine means 'a general scarcity of food grains' of an extreme nature in a particular part of a country. A famine may be caused due to various causes. It is usually caused due to drought, excess of rain or insufficient rainfall. It also follows in the wake of a war, which lays large areas waste in a country. Another cause of famine is the increase in population far in excess of food supply. This is why famine is more common in over-populated lands. For want of food, people are compelled to eat roots of plants and even rotten things. Husbands leave their wives and mothers part with their children; some unable to bear the pangs of hunger, even kill their dear ones before they commit suicide. Epidemics break out because people eat whatever they could get. In very ancient times, famine was regarded as divine punishment of sinful men. Now-a-days, more...

A cat is my most favourite pet. Besides a dog, a cat is a very popular pet animal. Cats have been tamed for thousands of years all over the world. But as a domestic animal, a cat is not as faithful obedient as a dog. It is a bit selfish and A cat is a pretty pet. It looks like a tiger but it is very small in size. It has a small round head. Its body is covered with soft and silken fur. It has four short legs with sharp claws in the paws. Its small eyes have sharp eyesight. Its teeth are very sharp. A cat can clearly see even in the dark. A cat has a keen sense of hearing. It lives on milk, meat and fish. A cat is a useful animal. It does much good to us by killing rats and other insects in our more...

"Ever since I've been an astronaut I knew I wanted  to do a spacewalk." John L. Phillips, astronaut The advent of the Space Shuttle and space stations made it obvious to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) that some method of extravehicular space locomotion was needed. The space agency called on the Lockheed Corporation (now Lockheed Martin) to build a device that would allow astronauts to manipulate satellites, repair and build structures, and perhaps even rescue colleagues engaged in extravehicular activities (EVAs). In 1984 the Manned Maneuvering Unit (MMU) became reality. The backpack-like unit was designed to work alongside the life-support systems already in place on a space suit. It was stowed in the payload bay of the Space Shuttle when not in use and simply attached to the standard Extravehicular Maneuvering Unit (EMU) spacesuit when astronauts needed to work on a part of the space station or ship more...

My entry into a college after I had completed my school education was an important event in my life. I felt very much excited on the very first day. I found that there is a great difference between school and college life. The world of the school is narrow and limited. The world of the college is large. I Teachers in a school are strict and use the rod to beat the boys very frequently. College teachers are like elder brothers. Most of the teachers in a college live in the world of ideas and books. We have students of all kinds in a college. They discuss the current affairs, art, cinema and sports. Some of them neglect text -books but they do not miss the daily newspaper or the running commentary of a cricket match going on in some part of the world. Some of them would even engage more...

"[Henry's magnetic force] totally eclipses every other in the whole annals of magnetism." William Sturgeon on Joseph Henry Englishman William Sturgeon invented the simple electromagnet in 1825; five years later, American Joseph Henry (1797-1878) successfully improved its magnetic field by a factor of about 400. The most important characteristic of modern electromagnets is the speed with which their magnetic fields can be manipulated. Basically an electromagnet is just a corkscrewlike coil of current- carrying wire—a solenoid. If a direct current is passed through the wire, the strength of the magnetic field is directly proportional to the amplitude of the current. A solenoid has only air in its core. If a stronger field is required, the core is filled with soft iron or any other suitable paramagnetic of ferromagnetic material. A disadvantage with this system is that remnant magnetism can persist after the electric current has been switched off. This has more...

A school magazine is an essential part of every good school. It is a good record to know the level of students of a school. Generally, a school magazine is published once in a year. Our school magazine is published in the month of May just before summer vacation. The organisational work starts before the month of February. A committee is formed headed by the Headmaster. He is assisted by some teachers and students. The committee publishes a notice requesting students and teachers for their contribution in the month of February. Students and teachers contribute their poems, essays, articles, stories, travelogues, jokes, anecdotes etc. for it. The intelligent and experienced students edit the magazine and teachers lend them a helping hand. A student becomes really proud and pleased when he finds his name and writing in print. Other students whose writings are not selected, try to develop their standard of more...

"Reserve your right to think, for even to think wrongly is better than not to think at all" Hypatia of Alexandria, distillery inventor Distillation is not a process confined to spirit production; it is a method of separating chemical substances by their volatility. Chemicals are separated from solutions by heating them until they boil and turn into gas. The gas is then collected and cooled, when it condenses into a liquid. As different chemicals boil at different temperatures, it is possible to separate them by controlling the heating temperatures. There is evidence of the distillation of alcohol dating back to the second millennium B.C.E. although recent evidence from Pakistan demonstrates that it was not until 400 B.C.E; that the process was well understood. The idea of boiling water and collecting it as steam, which separates out dirt, salts, and bacteria, seems to have of tme 800 years later, when Hypatia more...
