Ours is an age of electricity which is replacing other sources of energy like water, oil and coal, because it is comparably cheap, efficient and useful. Electricity supplies every kind of energy to man to improve his scientific inventions and increase his social amenities. From house-lighting to the running of giant factories, it is the invisible current that flows through the thin copper wire of insignificant dimension. Just switching on of button releases power and man has not failed  to avail himself of both the constructive and destructive potentialities of electrical energy. Consider the constructive side of electricity. It is a source of light, heat and other comforts. House, streets, parks, pleasure houses and places are lighted with electricity. Heating and cooling processes are also carried on by it. Air-conditioning is a feat of modern electrical engineering. Refrigerators not only condition the temperature but also preserve and facilitate man's food more...

The loss of a country when skilled and intelligent people leave it to go and live in other countries for better opportunities is called brain drain. In India the tendency to go abroad is growing rapidly. The growing urge among the Indian families to send their children to foreign lands especially the west is getting even stronger despite the fact that our country is in no way lacking in having excellent educational institutions.  The urge to go to the west has become compelling in our country in post-independence years. If we look into the reason for the brain drain phenomenon, it will be cleared that the educational pattern of country is not up to the mark. It does Hot serve the needs of the country. Other reasons are Unrecognized or unrewarded talents and lack of job Opportunities for trained professionals. This is the start of the brain drain of the more...

"Computers offer the possibility of truly individualized instruction." Donald Bitzer Today computers can be used to teach young children how to add up, government employees how to speak a foreign language, and even medical students how to dissect a human body. The idea of using a computer as an educational tool, or e-learning, is often seen as a recent innovation, whereas it has existed, at least in concept, for quite some time. By the end of the 1950s, computers were being used educationally by such early innovators as IBM and the University of Illinois. In 1960, Donald Bitzer was concerned about the number of illiterate students coming out of schools. When a professor posed a simple question in class one day about the use of computers for teaching, Bitzer took up the task. He designed one of the first learning systems specifically for computers, which used graphics and touch-sensitive screens. more...

Reading makes a man perfect. By reading we get information, facts and knowledge of the affairs of the world. The books prescribed for our formal education do not provide pleasure to us. This is an obligation on us to read that book as we have to continue with our education. We are to go through them even though we may not like them. The books that provide us pleasure are the books of our liking and interest. Therefore we should have a vast field of good books for our knowledge. Most of the people who read books as a part (pass) time, read them for pleasure only. But it is very much doubtful that all those who read get any real pleasure out of it. These days, reading has become a fashion too. We can see people reading books in buses, trains even bus-stops and restaurants. The only purpose of more...

Women are the victims of many evil practices in the society. One of them is the dowry system. The system is there in the Indian society since a very long time. Many great reformers have gained a very little or partial success to remove this social evil from the society. Legislative measures have also been taken by the state and central government but it persists in our society When a female child is born in a Hindu family especially in northern region it is considered a bad omen for the family. Spring is the most pleasant season in India. In this season everybody feels happy after the intense cold of winter. All take interest in out-door life. The earth wears a green dress. Again it comes to life. In this season the nature is kind. It gives us pleasure and joy. The trees, once more look fresh and lovely. They regain their lost leaves. The birds were silent in winter. Now they sing songs. They thank God with thousands of notes. Nature gives a grand feast to our hungry eyes. It invites us to come out and take part in the joy of the world. It presents a lovely sight to our eyes. We get new strength from the kind mother of nature. The cool breeze invites us to come into the open. Buds of flowers peep to see the beautiful sight of nature. Flowers spread their sweet smell in all more...

Every man dreams. Many aspire to be rich or to become business tycoons (magnates, big guns). Some persons dream of becoming leaders, politicians and social reformers. There are others who have a craze for becoming poets, writers and novelists and yet there are those who have a desire of becoming engineers, doctors and scientists of great repute. There are  very few persons, who are happy-go-lucky by nature and have no clear-cut aim in life. As for myself, I do not have very ambitious aims in my life. I do not wish to become a mill-owner or a multi-millionaire. The sole object of my life is to lead a life of simplicity and goodness devoted to the service of humanity. The life of a professional leader or politician does not interest me, as most of such persons are now parasites on society. I am born of middle class parents. From the more...

Unemployment means lack of work for those persons who are willing to work. There are two categories of unemployed persons-uneducated persons and educated persons. Unemployment among the educated people is increasing. Besides, unemployment, there is under employment also. Under employment means insufficient employment. For example, a farmer is under employed because he does not have work for the whole year. Unemployment is one of the major problems of the Indian economy. We know India is an underdeveloped economy and therefore the nature of unemployment here differs from the one that prevails in a developed economy. In India there is chronic under-employment or disguised unemployment in the rural sector and unemployment among the educated classes in the urban areas. The main cause of unemployment among the educated lot is the slow rate growth of the economy in relation to increase in the number of educated persons. Several factors are responsible for more...
