It had been pouring all through the night. I hardtop go to school the next day. When I woke up in the morning I was shocked to see the roads flooded with water. There was so much water on the roads that even a car could not drive through the water. If one had to cross the road, one would have to wade across or take a boat. This was the result of a cloud burst that had occurred the previous night.

People were seen wading across with their umbrellas and rain coats. However even these were of no use because the rain was pouring so heavily that any effort to protect our self from it was futile. Water clogged all the drains and houses became dirty with slush. The muddy puddles made it impossible for anyone to walk even on the pavements.

There was chaos everywhere as people tried to run here and there in search of shelter. I sat in my room waiting for the rain to stop, but it continued to pour. I decided to go to school even though it was raining.

As I was about to get ready for school, the telephone rang. It was my friend calling me up to tell me that it had been declared a holiday.

The Principal thought that it might almost be impossible for students to reach the school. Buses would find it difficult to drive across all the colonies in the city.

I was terribly excited when I heard about this unexpected holiday. Plans raced through my mind and I began to wonder what I would do during the day. As I could not go out of the house, I thought of all the things that one could do at home.

I called up my friend who is also my neighbour. He walked across to my house (with great difficulty) and we played as many indoor games as we could think of. We watched television, listened to some relaxing music and chatted a lot.

It turned out to be great day at home. The only regret was that I had to help my mother with cleaning the house which had became slushy and filthy. The water had seeped in though the balcony and the house was wet.
