An earthquake is a very dreadful natural calamity. When the surface of the earth trembles, we call it an earthquake. It is caused due to the relative movement of seismological plates within the earth. It releases a lot of energy. An instrument called seismograph is used to measure the force of an earthquake. The point where an earthquake breaks out is called the epi-centre of the earthquake. If an earthquake is mild, it does not do much harm. But if it is violent, it can be very dangerous to life and property. If the earth shakes for two or three minutes violently, brick houses fall down and the inmates are buried alive. It is difficult for men to remain standing. Due to severe shocks, trees and towers are uprooted, and the earth can become uneven. Sometimes, the water of a river or ocean is dried up and land appears there. An earthquake may cause a tsunami too claiming thousands of lives. Crops are destroyed. As a result a famine may breakout. The major earthquake-prone countries of the world are Japan, India, China and Russia. Thousands of people have lost their lives and many more have been rendered homeless in different earthquakes which have occurred now and then. An earthquake is a terrible thing, but is beyond human control.

A cyclone is a violent storm. It never comes alone. Heavy showers of rain, thunder and lightning are its companions. When a cyclone blows, it moves round and round in the form of small circles. It always changes its course when it blows. It does not move in the same direction like an ordinary storm. It occurs mostly in warm parts of the world. India is in this region of the world. Hence cyclones often blow over her. There are no cyclones in cold in cold countries.  There are some sings of the blowing of a cyclone. The weather becomes hot. There is not a breath of wind. Patches of dark cloud gradually spread in the sky. At last, the sky becomes dark. A storm sets in. The wind then begins to blow violently. From these we can understand that a cyclone will begin. Then it rains very heavily. Rashes of lightning are seen. Thunders begin to peal loudly. The wind begins to blow furiously. There is a roaring noise. The wind continues to blow for some hours. Sometimes it continues for a couple of days together.  The effect of the blowing of a cyclone is terrible as big trees fall down. House are blown away. It results in damage to life and property. The water of rivers rises as there are huge waves in them. Many boats are drowned. Everywhere dead bodies of men and beasts can be seen. Crops are destroyed. People suffer much. They become homeless and helpless. There is scarcity of food. A famine can break out after a cyclone. The miserable condition of the people cannot be fully described. Other people then try to help them with money, food and clothes.

Last year, our school visited the Deegha Beach among other places. The Deegha Beach is situated in Midnapore district in West Bengal on the Bay of Bengal, about 300 km from Kolkata. We took night bus from Kolkata. It started at 10 o'clock. Our teacher took the seat near the door while we all sat behind. We sang songs, cracked jokes and talked to enjoy ourselves. We all fell asleep at about 12 o'clock while the bus drove at its normal speed in the stillness of night.                                   Our bus reached the Deegha Beach as early as 4 o'clock. We hurriedly hired a hotel room and left our luggage there. Then we all hurried to the beach in the dark of early morning. We hurried because we wanted to see the sunrise. The beach was made of stone along the groves of coconut trees. We sat on a long wall facing the mighty ocean before us. Gradually the dark began to give way to light. The ocean waves were slowly striking the beach. After some time, the eastern sky grew purple and then it became red. In a few minutes, we could see the upper edge of the sun from behind the ocean as if it were coming out of the ocean. It was very soothing to the eyes. Our eyes remained glued to it as the crescent of the sun increased. And when it was about half, it almost sprang out like a ball and soon it was in the sky in all its glory. In a few minutes it shone brilliantly and we could no more fix our eyes on it. Now the waves rushed to the beach. We went into the sea and bathed for a long time. When the water level rose, we returned to our hotel. There we took bath and wore clothes. After breakfast, we returned to the beach to see the waves striking the stone wall hard. On the horizon we could see many fishing trawlers. It was a beautiful sight. In the evening, our bus started back to Kolkata. We sat in it looking out of window with the memories of beautiful sunrise still fresh.         

Last year the National Book Trust of India organized The World Book Fair at Pragati  Maidan, New Delhi. It was a –grand Occasion for me. As I am very fond of books, I with my friends decided to visit and watch this mega festival. The entry was free for the students. Hence, we went to the Book Fair on the Very inaugural day. The book fair was indeed a spectacle to watch. There Were hoardings everywhere "All for books and books for all." Each hall was segmented into many stalls managed by the respective publishing houses. There were local publishers, National publishers and International publishers with various kinds of books. Periodicals, Teaching Aids, audio-visual materials, computer software and hardware etc. We were very happy on seeing that. Books on wide range of disciplines such as Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Children books, Literature were displayed in almost all stalls. There were a few tails where we saw books on performing arts, books on Finance and Management, books on anatomy and medicine, books on law and income tax, university books and sponsored books.  But what attracted us most was the huge collection of dictionaries of various publications. They were arranged in a very attractive way. I purchased one dictionary along with many books on science and technology. I also bought a few books on literature. The book fair attracted a large number of men and women and a much larger numbers of students. Men and women were at their casuals but the students were seen very busy in watching and buying the books. The stalls which had displayed children's books were crowded with small children with their parents. They were not only enjoying the grand event, but also purchasing pictorial and colourful books. Every stall was very impressive no doubt, but the most attractive among all was the seating arrangements made for the enthusiastic and curious readers by few publications. I and my friends spent at least two hours with these publications. Here also I bought some books which appealed to me. My friends also bought several books. As the clock struck eight in memorable words, we returned back home with the bulk of books in our hands. On the way I remembered Francis Bacon's words, "some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed, and some few to be chewed and digested." I think I purchased only those books which are to be chewed and digested. To add to this, all the books are of permanent value and therefore I was feeling satisfied. I wish that such book fairs may be organized every year to stimulate the students to read more and more books.

In an age when everything seems to have gone topsy turvy  when everyone seems to run after some monetary achievement, no one can deny the importance of moral education. It is the only way out to keep control that they find themselves unable to differentiate between right and wrong. Moral education will enable them to go on the right path forgetting all those which are not at all desirable.  What is moral education after all ? It can be anything which teaches a person moral values and virtue. Values arc the set of guidelines that a human being learns to follow.  Nobody is born with moral content in him." It is inculcated in him by his education and experience of life. Hence, it is necessary to teach moral values from the very beginning of the childhood. We all pick up morals throughout our life, but it is the education that moulds them in our characters. By educating children about morals and their values in life but  can make them fit for the society as well as the nation. Now-a-days, students fail to come to terms with morals because they are not aware of any. The first thing that comes  to the mind is the increasingly bad behavior of students. The  frequent outbursts of defiance against parent authority and lack of respect for elders is all inductive of weak mor.il character. A great crime rate amongst the younger people who come within the range of 18 to 25 years is indicative of the  kind of education they are getting. Our society has been slipping towards the ditch of immorality and the day is not far off when we will see our society fallen into that ditch if we do not mend our ways, if we do not inculcate morality in our younger generation. We notice that corruption, bribery and crimes have spread in every part of the country. It is the lack of moral education that incidents like rape, kidnapping, etc. have been flourishing  without any control, people need money and for getting it they ' are ready to go to any extent. This shows how immoral they are. They have forgotten the ideals and moral values of the great men like Mahatma Gandhi, Vivekanand, Rajendra Prasad, etc. It is embarrassing that the country where such personalities have been born and lived and showed the world a path to lead, people have gone astray today. Let's come and make our society a better place to live in by following some basic moral values, which can only save us from all dangers. We must be aware of the fact that better the moral in the people, greater cohesiveness in the society.

Now a days plastic money in the form of cards taking place of currency. At present there are at least three million cards in use with estimated annual billing, Rs. 5000 crores.  No one can deny the importance and advantages of credit cards. If we ask people whether credit cards are a necessity or a luxury and most would probably term them a necessity these days. Credit cards are considered a boon for the ready convenience they confer on the user- you don't have to worry about carrying enough cash when you go shopping or to a restaurant. Just flash your card, sign and walk out. Thus the age of plastic money has finally come to India. The credit card has become a matter of status.   There are various categories of credit cards. The category, we are assigned, depends on our annual income and  frequency of usage. Generally it is seen the more exclusive our card category, the higher is the value of services offered. Annex Gold Card holders are offered privileges that range from the highest insurance cover to no present spending limit. Special corporate cards for frequent travelers and other categories are also available. Credit Card does not mean 'free' credit. In effect, what we are doing is merely postponing payment, while it looks real good to have to pay only one or two thousand a month on our card, it should not be forgotten that we are paying interest on the amount that we 'revolve' from one billing cycle to the next.  But there is one precaution we should add. We should always settle a credit card in full for two good reasons. First and foremost, if we are not able to pay up now, we should not have spent it in the first place. Second, the credit charges tend to be extremely high, ranging from 2 percent to 3 percent per month. There is no shortage of cards on offer. Almost every bank has launched a card, so the biggest hurdle we face is in trying to choose from amongst them. So, how does one choose among the various cards on offer? The factors for choosing a card revolve around certain differentiating features that one card   may offer and the- others don't, like acceptability, eligibility, fees, other charges, credit period, cash advance etc.  Cards which carry the Master or Visa affiliation are more widely accepted across the country compared to Diners and American Express cards. Similarly, global credit cards are valid even outside India. If one travels regularly within or outside India, these cards would probably suit one the best, due to their acceptability across various outlets If our credit card is more of a functional accessory while we shop or entertain in our own town, we will want a higher credit limit. The growth of human being has travelled a long journey. It was the greatest achievement of primitive man when he discovered fire with the help of a stone. With this human history moved very fast. Later on a number discoveries and inventions were made which changed human life completely. Energy is such a great invention which made our life more And more comfortable. It has become most needed necessity for us. It has created a crisis also. In the industrially advanced world of today, the demand for energy is increasing day by day. We have machines and factories, we have buses, cars, trains and planes, we have ships and sub marines. Energy is needed to run them. But this is not all. Man is hankering for a cozy and comfortable life. Hence he has become a little but lazy. He does not like even to wind his watch. So, energy is being used for running clocks and watches, typewriters, shaving razors and many more things. It seems as if everything will be paralyzed if there is no energy. Wood, later, on coal was the first source of energy then came oil and passing through the stage of atomic energy, man is now looking forward to solar energy. We are naturally anxious to think about our future because we know the bitter truth that a day will ultimately come when we have no more coal or oil. It will mean energy crisis, for which we ourselves are responsible. People who have made careful calculation feel that at present level of exploitation, the coal deposit will last till 2080 and it is also true that poor quality coal with the carbon content of 40 percent only, is not conducive for electricity generation. It is also very difficult to harness the uneven distribution of coal. Hence man is on look out for other sources of energy. Our present hope seems to rest on nuclear power  Nuclear energy can be obtained both through fusion and fusion processes. Enormous amounts of energy are released from small quantity of fuel in both these processes. But we must be aware of the fact that nuclear power is full of risks. The use of nuclear energy gives rise to pollutants and hence pollutes our environment. In fact the pollution caused by the use of nuclear energy from fission process is much more damaging than the pollution caused by burning fossil fuels. The dangerous nuclear radiations can damage and cause irreparable damage to cells, and in some cases even lead to death. The world is thus faced with serious energy crisis. The condition of India is no better. With growing population the demand for energy is increasing day by day. Since India has limited coal and oil reserve and power generation from coal and oil is also very costly, therefore the government is taking steps to supply energy for non-commercial purposes from various sources such as bio-gas. Everyone in this world has his own likes and dislikes. So is the case with choosing one's profession There are many professions to choose from. But most of people have got some pet profession that they like most. In the childhood, everyone talks of becoming a barrister, a doctor or an engineer but some like to become politicians, statesmen, officers in army, navy and air force. It is quite difficult to choose a profession. Upon a profession depends the whole life of a man and so one must have an aim in his life. An aimless life is just like a boat or a ship that is not aware of its destination or is a letter without an address. Hence, there arises the necessity of choosing a profession. Although I am not fit enough at this age to choose a profession, yet I would like to take up teaching as profession. Teaching is a noble profession,  I want to become a professor. Ours is still more or less an illiterate country. So, to take the masses from the darkness to light, from ignorance to knowledge, from illiteracy to literacy, is really a pious task. That is way, I want to take up teaching as my profession. Teaching has many advantages over other professions. First of all, it is free from all the corrupt practices prevalent in  other professions. It is an ideal and a noble profession in the sense that a teacher remains honest and studious in his profession. He gives the gems from his mind to his students. The words of wisdom are far more valuable than all the riches and everyone can get benefit out of them. A professor remains in touch with various books. This keeps his knowledge up-to-date. He is the storehouse of knowledge and information. He is the picture of wisdom. A professor has to read books of eminent authors, philosophers and literary figures. So, his maturity is deep. His ability to solve complex problems is remarkable. Almost all the great men of the world started their lives as teachers. Dr. S. Radhakrishan, our former President, was a  university professor. Acharya Kripalani was also a college teacher. Our late President, Zakir Hussain, was the Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University. Dr. M. M. Joshi, our present HRD Minister, has also an academic background. A teacher is the true builder of a nation. It is he who  moulds the characters of tender children and creates in them noble qualities of service, sacrifice and patriotism. A teacher is the pillar of nation's progress. It is he who guides the students in their most critical periods. He is the maker of their lives. That is why, I like this profession most. A teacher is held in high esteem by everyone-students as well as the society.
