Science has gifted us so many wonderful things that have affected our style of living and made life easy going. Computer is one of them that have played an important role in improving the conditions of advanced nations. We can effectively realize our dreams through proper use of computers. India declared its computer policy in November 1984. It has opened a new beginning of computer revolution in the history of India. The first computer in India was built in 1966 by Tata Institute of Fundamental Research. After a while Bhabha Atomic Research Centre added to computers in a series. Computers are now manufactured on a commercial basis. This   given a further momentum to the computer  revolution in India. The establishment of the Electronics Corporation of India was a momentous event. The use of electronics will not accentuate the problem of unemployment. On the other hand it will provide employment to a lot of people.  Electronics can be safely and carefully made use of in agriculture. Weather forecasting and soil testing. Tile ruling party made use of computer in the last Lok Sabha and Assembly elections. Computer played a great and important role in the analysis of election results. The Government has established National Information Centre in New Delhi under Electronics Commission which is fitted with the most advanced and accurate computers. The use of computer has proved to be very beneficial in banks. There are plans to fit computers at the main branches of all the nationalized banks The computer is being increasingly used in transport system. The international airlines have already got it. Its use in Post and Telegraph, military corporate houses will revolutionize the working of these departments. The computer has been found of immense use in the statistical department for the purpose of data analysis Indeed advantages of (lie use of computers are many. They make calculations much faster and more accurately than in ail industrial countries of Europe and USA, on a large scale. If data are correctly feed into a computer than it can check and correctly examine answer book at much faster rate. That is why computers are in use of practically all the educational institutions of die developed countries of the world, and developing countries like India are making increasing use of them.

Napoleon was once asked what the great need of France was. He answered," Nation's progress is impossible without trained and educated mothers. If the women of my country are not educated, about half of the people will be ignorant." A woman has to play three roles in the course of her life. Each of these roles expects some duties from her. It is only with the help. Of education that she would be able to do them successfully the first duty of a woman is to be good daughter. The second duty is to be a good wife and third duty is to be a good mother. Education teaches a woman what she should be. It also teaches her how she should do it to be good daughter, a good wife and a good mother. Many men spend their evening time at clubs and societies. But a gentleman with an educated wife will not feel the need of a club or a society. He can share his thoughts with her. He can have her advice in trouble. He can spend his leisure in her pleasant company. An educated lady is a good friend, a clever nurse and a useful adviser to her husband. So she is a true help-mate. She can get her husband's affection and regard. An educated lady is always able to share his sorrows. There is a saying in English" The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world". The meaning is that the mother exercises a very great influence over the lives of her children. She is able to mould their thoughts and character. If she is educated, she will make such impression on the mind of her children that will enable them in the later life to grow into a great man. Jeeja Bai mother of Shivaji wished to make Shivaji a great man. It was Shivaji who overthrew Mughal Empire and became what his mother wished. It is true that education will enable women to make their parents, husbands and children truly happy. Hence it is very necessary that women should be educated. An educated girl is more important than an educated boy.

India is a land of fairs. Almost every district has a fair. Some of them are religious fairs. Others are commercial fairs. Some of them are both. On the Kartik Purnima, it was a holiday. I went with some friends to see the Bateshwar Fair. It is very famous and people come to see it from far and wide. We went there in the morning.  When we reached the fair, we had to cross bridge over a part of the river. Then we reached the Mela ground. We saw a large number of donkeys, pigs, camels and horses in different parts of the fair ground. The donkeys were holding a braying competition. The pigs were grunting, the horses were neighing and camels were making a babbling sound. I liked the horses show best. The owners of the horses were riding and showing them to the buyers. Some of them were very costly. There was a great dust. Our clothes and hair became dusty with it. We looked like old men. We reached the shop market. Here the ground was well sprinkled with water. There was no dust at all. At first we took our refreshments in a fine sweet shop. Then we went round. The arrangements of shops were nice. The shops of one kind were at one place in rows. In the cloth market, I looked at attractive sarees and other clothes. We asked the price of many things though we did not want to buy them.   Then we won’t to the Jamuna and took bath there. There was a great crowd and the water had become very dirty. After bath we went to the temple of Shiva and rang the hanging bell. Many worshippers were standing for their turns. Many people were worshipping Lord Shiva. We saw different types and large number of swings there. There was much squeaking and noise. The children liked them very much. They loved going up and down in them. There was a circus show also. We went in on payment of one rupee each. There showed lions, tigers, elephants and other animals. They showed their amusing tricks. There were theatres and companies also. We took our food in a big shop. We had too much, though we did not like the food. It was after all a fair and everybody was making money. We went to see the shops again. This time we bought many things of daily use. Now the evening was drawing near and we were tired. So we returned home on a tonga. It was really a good fair to watch.

On December 27, 2004 no newspaper of the world knew any data other than the Tsunami. "TSUNAMI STRIKES', 'BOLT FROM THE BEUE', etc. were the headlines that underlined each newspaper's mast-head. Yes, a deadly Tsunami had struck the Indian Ocean and the Bay of Bengal, on Dec 26. Nobody except some was much aware of 'tsunami'. 'Tsunami' is a Japanese word meaning 'harbour wave'. It is the seismic sea waves that are generated by tectonic displacements in the ocean n bed. This displacement may be an earthquake, a landslide, or a volcanic eruption. It causes a sudden displacement of water above and forms a small group of water waves having wavelengths equal to several thousand metres. Thus, on the sea level, it causes high waves, further causing destruction all around llie region. The December 26 Tsunami was caused by under-water Earthquake of magnitude 9.3 on the Richter scale. The epicenter of the quakes is said to be near the Coast of Sumatra Island of Indonesia. From there, it spread across the ocean and reached even the eastern coast of Africa. It has been the deadliest tsunami ever in recorded history. The last deadly tsunami  occurred in Phillipines in August 1976, killing 8000. Other tsunamis that caused hovoc in history, were the Nov 1755 one in Lisbon, killing 60000; August 1883 one in Indonesia killing 36000; and the June 1896 one in Japan, killing 27000 people. The recent tsunami has killed over 290000 people across 11 nations like India, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Somalia, Myanmar, etc. Many people said to be in thousands, are still missing. In India, Tamil Nadu and Andaman and Nicobar Islands have been worst affected. Sri Lanka and Indonesia halve lost many lives, a loss that can never be compensated. This tsunami has also affected European countries, especially Sweden, whose tourists were enjoying Christmas at tourist places like Thailand and Indonesia. It has badly harassed the economy of the affected countries. Man has boasted too much of his creative mind. But before the nature's fury, he has gazed at what happened^ unable to do anything. Tsunami is yet another reminder that man has not conquered nature and his creative science is still very limited. He has achieved a lot, no doubt, but still there is something which S$ beyond his control. Tsunami is one of them. It is a bitter truth that nature is after all nature. We can’t. Understand its mysteries and hence can't overcome it.  What we can do is that we can just come forward with our helping hands to manage the disaster in the best possible manner and to give late to the people. Help from various parts flooded in for the tsunami victims. It has still not stopped. While newspapers and magazines published advertisements for relief funds, TV. Channels also did so. Most of the government employees contributed a day on a month's salary. (The International Cricket Council (ICC) conducted Tsunami Relief Cricket Match in January and as a result billions more...

The term 'religion' applies to the belief and way how and to whom one worships. Its origin dates back to the origin of mankind. It means to say that it grew along with the growth of human being. Primarily there have been four major religions—Hindu, Islam, Christianity and Sikhism. All these religions take human being to its salvation. The followers of these different religions follow different Gods and different ways of their worship. With the growth of humanity, a  number of other sub-religions have been born. But one thing is very clear that followers of all the religions believe in a super power and they try to get its blessing. Its means that religion is the super concept that relates the physic to the metaphysic. But there has been a very dangerous turn in the ideal of religion. Politics has intruded in religion and religion is being used for politics. According to the constitution India is a secular country which provides to all its citizens the freedom of faith and worship in their own way. But in the present scenario this religious freedom is being misused. Religious appeals are made by the leaders for seeming more and more votes. Religious' feelings of the people are aroused for political gain. The demolition of the disputed structure in Ayodhya is one of the examples of the misuse of religion. As a result there were communal riots all over the country. It were as if people had lost their mental balance and were out to destroy their religions rivals. It was forgotten at that time that India is a land of many religious and all religions are given equal respect and weight. However the issue was handed over to the Supreme Court and the Government is bound to 'follow its judgement.   As our life has completely been politicalised, religion has taken a prominent place in every field of our life. Politics is the way through which we occupy the government, rule the country and establish contacts with the mass, on the other hand religion ' is the most sensitive way through which we take ourselves to ; a completely different world which is transcendental. While politics is completely a physical phenomenon related to this world, religion is completely a meta physical phenomenon which has in no way any relation to this world. It means both stand apart. But in the present context of our way of life both have been intermingled which has created a chaotic situation and we are completely confused. This chaotic situation is the outcome of selfish attitude of the politicians. Today politicians are not concerned with the welfare of the nation. Instead they think only for the next election. Hence they  try to create their vote banks in either way. For this they apply every possibility and make all efforts to win over the majority of the people in their favour. They use money, caste-factor, regionalism, lingualism etc. for this purpose. They have not spared the pious religion. more...

India has repeatedly said it wants peace with its neighbourers and utilise its nuclear option for peaceful purposes. But it must also be prepared to defend itself in case some enemy attacks it. India is no exception. China and Pakistan are India's neighbours. They have utilized every resource to prepare themselves in case of a war. China is now not only major nuclear power in Asia, it has also helped Pakistan to develop nuclear weapons. Pakistan has also been enjoying economic and military aid from the U.S.  India, being a big country, too has to make her presence felt in the region. For this to be accomplished, she has been involved in nuclear research since long. India faced a crushing and humiliating defeat in its war with China in 1962, and this has forced her to be prepared for any threat in future. Manufacturing nuclear weapons is very important for India because the world should be made aware that she is not a weak nation and that in times of strife, she can defend her honour. There are many people who are of the opinion that India should not manufacture nuclear weapons. A peace loving people believe that no country should manufacture nuclear weapons. This is true, but the fact that the world is constantly in a state of uncertainty and the political scene is unpredictable, it is better to be prepared rather than to feel sorry later. India should not have an aggressive attitude. It should remain committed to peace which means that she should never start a war. She should, however, be adequately prepared to defend herself in case some country attacks her. Meanwhile at home, nuclear energy can be utilized for peaceful purposes. Many developmental programmes have been started by the government. Nuclear energy is of great use in the field of construction and to dig out various treasures from the earth. It is the need of the day to bring about greater progress and India cannot afford to lag behind. Hence, nuclear power is necessary for India.
