 Senior journalist and writer Adiraju Venkateswara Rao passed away. He was 79.  Rao worked in different Telugu and English newspapers. He also authored several books. He played an active role in the separate Telangana agitation in 1969 and the state government honoured him during the Telangana formation day celebrations recently.

 Odisha's most popular lyricist, Narayan Prasad Singh was popularly known as 'Rasaraj' passed away at his residence in Bhubaneswar. Singh was 86. Born on May 28th, 1933 at Koeli village, Singh earned his name in the world of Odia music. He was the lyricist of several popular melodious songs in Odia cinema.

 Timothy Pereira, former football international who represented Tata FC, died after a prolonged illness. Pereira was 75. He played for the country in 1967-68. Pereira also played hockey and represented Catholic Gymkhana in the local league.

 Former Himachal Pradesh governor and Congress leader Urmila Singh died due to prolonged illness at a private hospital in Indore. She was 71. Belonging to a family of freedom fighters, Singh was appointed as the governor of Himachal Pradesh in 2010.Prior to that, she had served as the chairman of the National Scheduled Tribes Commission (NCTC).

 Former US astronaut Alan Bean, who was the fourth man to walk on the Moon, has died in Texas, United States. He was 86. Bean went into space twice, the first time in November 1969 as the lunar module pilot on the Apollo 12 moon-landing mission. In 1973 he was commander of the second crewed flight to Skylab- America's first space station. Bean retired from NASA in 1981 and carved a successful career as an artist. His paintings, inspired by space travel, featured lunar boot prints as well as small pieces of his mission patches which were stained by Moon dust.

 Veteran writer, novelist Yaddanapudi Sulochana Rani, who along with her women counterparts Arikepudi Kousalya Devi and Ranganayakamma, heralded a new era in Telugu fictional literature since the 1950s, passed away at California. The writer, who hailed from Kaza village of Krishna district, was 78. Some of Sulochana's famous novels include Murali Krishna, Radha Krishna, Jeevana Tarangalu, Premalekhalu, Secretary, Aathmeeyulu to name a few.

 The actor Margot Kidder, best known for playing Lois Lane in the Superman films in the 1970s and 1980s,has died at the age of 69, a funeral home in Montana, US. Canadian-born Kidder also appeared in the movie The Great Waldo Pepper and the 2014 children’s TV series R.L. Stine’s The Haunting Hour, for which she won an Emmy award.

 Noted Hindi film lyricist, Nandram Das Bairagi, popularly known as Balkavi Bairagi, passed away in his sleep. Bairagi, a Lok Sabha member between 1984 and 1989 and also a former Rajya Sabha MP. He was 87. He wrote several Hindi poems, among which, "Jhar gaye paat, bisar gayi tehni" is considered a gem by many Hindi poets.

 British film editor Anne V. Coates, who won an Oscar for David Lean’s epic film Lawrence of Arabia, has passed away. She was 92. Coates received five Best Film Editing Oscar nominations over the course of her career for Becket (1963), The Elephant Man (1980), In the Line of Fire (1993) and Out of Sight (1998) in addition to her nom and win for Lawrence of Arabia (1962). She also received an Academy Honorary Award, known as a Lifetime Achievement Oscar, in November 2016 by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

  Veteran Marathi singer Arun Date, known for his popular song "Shukratara" had passed away in Mumbai. He was 84. He was the first recipient of the state government's 'Gajananrav Vatave Puraskar'. Mr Date was very famous for non-film 'bhavgeet' (lyrical poetry) songs.
