  Renowned economist Baidyanath Mishra passed away due to old-age related problems. He was 99. Mishra had started his career as a lecturer in Ravenshaw University in Cuttack in 1949. He was vice-chancellor of Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) from 1981 to 1985. He was also the chairman of the State Planning Board from 1985 to 1990.

  Former Indian Cue sports Player, Coach and administrator Derek Sippy passed away in Mumbai due to a massive heart attack. He was the Indian team’s coach at recently concluded Asian Under-21 Boys Snooker and Asian Women Snooker tournament in Chandigarh.

 Prominent writer and academician, Maramraju Satyanarayana Rao passed away following a cardiac arrest. He was 84. He was born at Jayyaram village in Mahabubabad district in Telangana. He had worked as professor of political science and registrar of Ambedkar Open University, Hyderabad. He has also authored several books.

 Peter Mayhew, the actor behind the character of Chewbacca has passed away. He was 74. Mayhew is most widely known for his portrayal of the more-than-200-year-old Wookie Chewbacca in the Star Wars franchise. Mayhew was also an active philanthropist.

 Noted Kannada theatre personality, satirist and TV actor Master Hirannaiah has passed away. He was 85 years old. Narasimha Murthy hailing from Mysuru was the son of another theatre thespian K. Hirannaiah. Making his debut on the stage as a child, he went by the stage name Master Hirannaiah, a name that stuck with him forever.

  The former Ethiopian president, Dr Negasso Gidada had passed away in Germany where he was undergoing medical treatment. Negasso was 75 years old. He was the president of Ethiopia between 1995 and 2001.

 John Singleton, an Academy Award-nominated filmmaker has passed away following complications from a stroke. He was best known for directing “Boyz N the Hood” and “Poetic Justice,”. Singleton became the first black filmmaker nominated for a Best Director Oscar for his debut feature from 1991, “Boys N The Hood.” He was only 24 at the time.

  Former India footballer Pungam Kannan passes away at age 80 years. Kannan played 14 matches for India & was the former Mohun Bagan & East Bengal forward. He won Santosh Trophy for Bengal twice in a row (1971-73) and was the top-scorer. He was known as the ‘Pele of Asia’.
