 HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar launched the Institution’s Innovation Councilthrough video conferencing in New Delhi. The purpose of formation of network of Institution’s Innovation Councils (IICs) is to encourage, inspire and nurture young students by exposing them to new ideas. More than one thousand Higher Education Institutions have already formed IICs in their campuses to promote innovation.

 The 49th edition of the International Film Festival of India opened with the gala opening ceremony at the Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium in Goa. The 9-day event will showcase 212 films from 68 countries. While The Aspern Papers is the opening film, Sealed Lips will be the closing movie. Chaitanya Prasad is the Director of Festival. While Israel is the focus country, Jharkhand is the focus state this year. Ten Israeli films including The Other Story will be screened at the IFFI. Veteran Israeli filmmaker Dan Wolman will be given the Lifetime Achievement Award this year.

 The 14th edition of JashneBachpan, a theatre festival for children, will see performances from Switzerland, Sri Lanka and Indonesia along with their Indian counterparts in New Delhi. The festival was organized by the National School of Drama’s (NSD) Theatre in Education (TIE) Company. The nine-day theatre festival for children saw 21 productions from India and three foreign groups including Sri Lanka (non-verbal), Switzerland (English) and Indonesia (Javanese).

  India’s first specialized hospital for elephants has been opened by Agra Divisional Commissioner Anil Kumar at Farah block’s Churmura village, Mathura. The hospital is designed to treat injured, sick or geriatric elephants and is equipped with a medical hoist for lifting elephants, as also an elephant restraining device with a dedicated indoor treatment enclosure for long duration medical procedures.

 Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik launched the force’s e-learning portal NIPUN and training division website. Through the website, Delhi Police will be using advanced technology in imparting in-service training to its personnel. The e-learning portal aims to give online training and information through specialized courses designed by experts in the field.

 Satya Pal Singh, Minister of State for Human Resource Development, launched two new initiatives, namely, the Leadership for Academicians Programme (LEAP) and the Annual Refresher Programme In Teaching (ARPIT) for higher education faculty. LEAP is a three weeks flagship leadership development training programme for the second level academic functionaries in higher education institutions and ARPIT is a unique initiative of online professional development of 15 lakh higher education faculty.

 The government will release a Rs 75 coin to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose hoisting the Tricolour for the first time at Port Blair. The Ministry of Finance has issued a notification regarding the release of the Rs 75 coin along with its specifications. On December 30, 1943, Bose raised the Indian National Army (INA) to fight against the British, had hoisted the Tricolour for the first time at Cellular Jail, Port Blair.
Salient features of the coin:
  • 1. Weight: 35 grams.
  • 2. Composition: 50% silver, 40% copper, and 5% each of nickel and zinc.
  • 3. Portrait of ‘Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’ saluting the flag on the background of Cellular Jail in Port Blair.
  • 4. A numeral 75th along with inscription “anniversary” will be depicted below the portrait.
  • 5. An inscription saying ‘First Flag Hoisting Day’ in both Devnagari script and English.

     The 38th India International Trade Fair (IITF) has begun at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi. The 14-day annual event will continue till 27th of November. This year the theme of the fair is ‘Rural Enterprises in India’. Afghanistan is the Partner Country, while Nepal will be the Focus Country. Jharkhand is participating as a Partner State in the event. Around 800 participants from States and government departments, domestic and international companies are taking part to showcase their product.

     Indian mountaineer Satyarup Siddhanta became the first Indian to climb Mt Giluwe, the second highest mountain in Papua New Guinea. Satyarup reached the summit of the mountain which is at an elevation of 4,367 metres. Satya now has scaled 5 of the 7 volcanic summits.

     Ayodhya Deepostav 2018, an event organised to mark Diwali celebrations in Ayodhya town – has entered Guinness Book of World Records. A Guinness certificate was issued to UP government’s tourism department and Dr Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Avadh University, Faizabad, when over three lakh clay lamps were illuminated at Ram Ki Paidi on Chhoti Diwali as part of Deepotsava. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had also announced that Faizabad district will now be known as Ayodhya.
