 “Summer Treats” campaign has been launched by the private sector HDFC Bank. The special campaign has been launched by the bank with the easing of the lockdown restrictions in order to provide offers to both merchants and, salaried and self-employed customers. Under the “Summer Treats” campaign, bank will offer no cost EMI and no down payment for large appliances. It will also offer discounts and cashbacks on select brands along with 50% extra reward points on online spend using credit cards.

 United Nations celebrates Russian Language Day every year on 6 June to raise awareness of the history, culture and development of each of the six official languages of the UN: Arabic, Russian, Spanish, Chinese, English and French. Hence the day is celebrated by UN as part of program to support and develop multilingualism and cultural diversity and to maintain the equality of all six official languages of the UN.

  Government of India has launched “The Urban Learning Internship Program (TULIP)”. This programme is an initiative of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Ministry of HRD, and Ministry of Housing and Urban Development. TULIP programme aims to provide internship opportunities to fresh graduates in all Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) as well as Smart Cities across the nation. The programme would also facilitate practical experience to the students of India and hence help in infusing fresh ideas and innovative thinking into the working of Urban Local Bodies and smart cities. An opportunity will be provided to the youth of India via TULIP programme in order to generate news ideas to reform Urban local bodies with the help of modern techniques and innovative methods. Hence, it will help in improving the value-to-market of Indian graduates and help in the creation of a potential talent pool in diverse fields such as transport engineering, environment, urban planning, municipal finance etc.

 India has appointed Brajendra Navnit as India’s new ambassador to the World Trade Organization (WTO). He is a 1999 batch IAS officer of Tamil Nadu cadre. He will be posted at the Permanent Mission of India (PMI) to the WTO in Geneva. Navnit, who recently completed his tenure as Joint Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office. He replaces JS Deepak at the PMI, whose two-year extended term ended on May 31. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, which approved Navnit’s foreign post, also gave a nod to the appointment of Anwar Hussain Shaik for the post of Counsellor, at the PMI to WTO, Geneva. He is a 2000 batch IRTS officer.

 The merger of Peugeot S.A (PSA) and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles N.V. (FCA) has been approved by the Competition Commission of India (CCI). Peugeot S.A (PSA) is a publicly listed limited liability company incorporated in France. PSA is an original equipment manufacturer and dealer of motor vehicles, passenger cars as well as light commercial vehicles under the brands Peugeot, Citroën, Opel, Vauxhall and DS. Headquartered in London, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles N.V. (FCA) is a public company with limited liability. FCA is a global automotive group. Its works include manufacturing, designing, engineering, distributing and selling vehicles, components as well as production systems worldwide.

 The tenure of Subramanian Sundar as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Lakshmi Vilas Bank has been extended after the approval from the Reserve Bank of India. His tenure has been extended for a period of 6 months i.e. till 30th November 2020 or till the appointment of the new CEO, whichever is earlier.Subramanian Sundar’s tenure as the MD & CEO of Lakshmi Vilas Bank has been extended for the second time.

 MD & CEO, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Uday Kotak has taken over as the President of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) for the year 2020-21. He has replaced the chairman and MD of Kirloskar Systems, Vikram Kirloskar as the President of CII. T.V. Narendran, CEO & MD of Tata Steel Ltd., is now CII’s president designate for the current financial year, while the Chairman and MD of Bajaj Finserv Ltd., Sanjiv Bajaj has taken over as the vice-president of CII.

 Twitter has appointed ex-Google chief financial officer (CFO), Patrick Pichette as new board chairman. He will replace Omid Kordestani. Pichette joined Twitter’s board of directors in 2017 and had been a lead independent director since the end of 2018. Prior to this, he served as Google’s CFO from 2008 until 2015. It is the first time in Twitter’s history that an outsider will preside over the group.

  Emmy-winning television producer, Krishnendu Majumdar becomes the new chairman of British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA). He is the first person of colour to be named as the chairperson of BAFTA in its 73 year-long histories of BAFTA. He will replace Pippa Harris. Harris will now continue as deputy chairperson. Prior to this, Majumdar served as the chair of the Learning and New Talent Committee (2006-2010), the chair of the Television Committee (2015-2019) and an individual from the leading group of trustees for 9 years. He has been intently working with BAFTA for 14 years.

 “PM SVANidhi” is a Special Micro-Credit Facility Scheme that has been launched by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. Street vendors will be provided affordable loans under the PM Street Vendor’s Atma Nirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) scheme, hence enabling them to resume work and earn livelihoods. The scheme is expected to benefit over 50 lakh people including hawkers, thelewalas, vendors, rehriwala etc. Under the PM SVANidhi scheme, street vendors will be able to avail the working capital loan of up to Rs. 10,000, which is repayable in monthly instalments in the tenure of one year. A digital platform with web portal/ mobile app would be developed to administer the scheme with end-to-end solution. It will also help in integrating the vendors into the formal financial system.
