 Inflation based on wholesale prices shot up to a 14-month high of 4.43% in May on increasing prices of petrol and diesel as well as vegetables. The Wholesale Price Index (WPI) based inflation stood at 3.18%in April and 2.26% in May 2017. According to government data released, inflation in food articles was at 1.60% in May 2018, as against 0.87% in the preceding month. Inflation in vegetables climbed to 2.51% in May, while in the previous month it was (-)0.89%. Inflation in ‘fuel and power’ basket rose sharply to 11.22% in May from 7.85% in April as prices of domestic fuel increased in line with rising global crude oil rates. |

 Union Cabinet has approved the proposal for grant of permission to HDFC Bank to raise additional share capital of up to a maximum of 24,000 crore rupees. The composite foreign shareholding in the Bank will not exceed 74% of the enhanced paid-up equity share capital of the bank. According to the Finance Minister Piyush Goyal, the proposed investment is expected to strengthen the capital adequacy ratio of the bank. The Cabinet also approved reconstitution of North Eastern Council (NEC). Home Minister will be the ex officio chairman of NEC and the Minister of State for DoNER will serve as Vice Chairman of the council. |

The 2018 French Open (also known as Roland Garros) was a Grand Slam tennis tournament played on outdoor clay courts. It was the 122nd edition of the French Open and the second Grand Slam event of 2018. It took place at the Stade Roland Garros in Paris, France. Rafael Nadal was the defending champion in the Men's Singles and won his 11th French Open title.
Jelena Ostapenko was the defending champion in the Women's Singles. Simona Halep won her first Grand Slam title. It was also the first French Open since 1992 that both the men's and the women's singles competitions were won by the top seeds.
