 National Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasting (NCMRWF), Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) has organized a 3-day international conference on Ensemble Methods in Modelling and Data Assimilation (EMMDA) in Noida, Uttar Pradesh. The conference was organized to have a concrete discussions and deliberations on the present status, future prospects as well as optimum use of Ensemble Prediction System (EPS). The Ensemble Prediction System has been developed by leading weather forecasting centres of the world to quantify the forecast uncertainty and to probabilistic forecasting of weather.

  NITI Aayog is organizing Sustainable Development Goals Conclave 2020: Partnerships, Cooperation and Development of North Eastern states in Guwahati, Assam. The event will see representations from the North-Eastern states, Central Ministries, academia, civil society and international development organizations. The conclave is to focus on SDG localization in the northeastern region. It includes climate adaptive agriculture, sustainable livelihoods, education, health and nutrition, skill development, connectivity, entrepreneurship, infrastructure development. Every session is to chaired by respective field specialist. NITI Aayog has the mandate of overseeing the adoption and monitoring of SDGs at the national and sub-national level. Progress in the northeast region is crucial in this decade of action for the country to achieve the SDGs by 2030. This conclave is part of the NITI Aayog’s continuous efforts towards fostering partnerships at the sub-national level.

  A brainstorming session “Chintan Shivir” was held at Kevadia in Gujarat. The session aimed to focus on the future prospects of the coal sector. The session was chaired by Union Minister of Coal and Mines Shri Pralhad Joshi and he stated that India will put an end on importing thermal coal by the Financial Year 2023-24.
Some key highlights of the “Chintan Shivir”:
  • The session discussed the issues faced by the coal sector and deliberated on ways to resolve these issues with the help of innovative solutions.
  • Participants also discussed on ways to achieve the coal production target of 1 billion tonnes (BT) by Coal India Limited (CIL) by Financial Year 2023-24.
  • Shipping Ministry and Indian Railways will be helped by the Ministry of Coal to enable the Coal India Limited (CIL), Captive and Commercial Miners to evacuate more and more coal by 2030.
  • “Coal Minister’s Award” would also be constituted to appreciate the measures taken by the coal companies in coal production, productivity, safety, sustainability etc.
  • Strategies for sustainable mining, environmental conservation, use of clean coal technologies were also deliberated during the shivir.
  • There is a scope for Coal India Limited to transform its pithead thermal power plants into an integrated energy company and CIL can generate solar power of 5 GW by 2023-24 and could achieve a target of 50 Million Tonnes by 2030 by diversifying itself into the coal gasification.

 The Government of Telangana hosting Bio-Asia Summit 2020 in Hyderabad between February 17, 2020, and February 19, 2020. The main objective of the summit is to explore the capabilities of Life Science Companies and their investments. The theme of the Summit is Theme: Today for Tomorrow. The summit will be attended by researchers, investors, conglomerates, start-ups and health care representatives. They will focus on the needs of the evolving Life Science industry.

  The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) 43rd Governing Council meeting was held in Rome, Italy. The 43rd sessions will focus on the overarching theme “Investing in sustainable food systems to end hunger by 2030″. The theme highlights how IFAD’s role and experience in supporting sustainable, inclusive, nutritious and efficient food systems uniquely place it in a position to contribute to Sustainable Development Goals (SDG2). During the meet, the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) stated that the sequences of climate change and its impacts on agriculture will push around 100 million people to poverty by 2030.

  National Security Guard (NSG) has organised the 20th International Seminar on “Comprehends the Evolving Contours of Terrorism & IED Threat-Wayahead for the Security Community” at Manesar, Haryana. The seminar was inaugurated by the Minister of State for Home Affairs, G. Kishan Reddy. Senior Police and security officers, and delegates from various countries are participating in the Seminar. A wide spectrum of Counter Terrorism and Counter-IED issues in wil be covered in the two-day seminar. During the seminar, the MoS for Home Affairs appealed to the Global community to join hands to form a united front against the common enemy i.e. terrorism. He also emphasized the importance of improving the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) detection and to enhance our capabilities to prevent such attacks. He also presented the Counter-IED Innovators awards and released the 30th volume of “The Bomshell”.

 The 6th edition of the mega industrial exhibition ‘Engiexpo 2020’ is being organised in Vadodara, Gujarat from February 15 to 17, 2020. The three-day mega exhibition will be organised by the Federation of Small Scale Industries (FSSI), to promote ‘Made in India’ products. Over 10,000 industrial products will be showcased in more than 300 stalls. Several companies from Uzbekistan are also participating in the exhibition.

 National Conference on e-Governance 2020 was held in Mumbai, Maharashtra. The Mumbai Declaration was adopted on the concluding day of the National Conference on e-Governance. The theme of the conference is: India 2020: Digital Transformation. The National e-Governance Awards 2020 were also presented during the conference. The National Conference on E-Governance was organised jointly by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India and Department of Information Technology, Government of Maharashtra. In the National Conference on e-Governance 2020, use of digital technologies in transforming the governance was discussed along the issues, opportunities and challenges faced during this transformation process. During the conference, Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh stated that the e-Governance is very essential to achieve good governance.
  • National e-Governance Awards 2020:
The National e-Governance Awards 2020 were also presented during the conference to recognize the exemplary implementation of e-Governance initiatives and promote excellence in implementation of e-Governance initiatives.

  • To recognize achievements in the area of e-Governance.
  • To disseminate knowledge on effective methods of designing and implementing sustainable e-Governance initiatives.
  • To encourage incremental innovations in successful e-Governance solutions.
  • To promote and exchange experiences in solving problems, mitigating risks, resolving issues and planning for success.
Awards winners are as follows:
  • Under the category of “Excellence in Government Process Re-engineering for Digital Transformation”, National Health Authority, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare was awarded with Gold award for Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana.
  • IIT Roorkee’s Satellite-Based Agriculture Information System: An Efficient Application of ICT has won the Gold Award for Outstanding Research on Citizen-Centric Services.
  • Under the category of “Excellence in providing citizen-centric delivery”, Antyodaya Saral Haryana of Department of IT, Haryana was awarded with the Gold award.

 The 5th edition of Dhaka Art Summit was inaugurated in Dhaka, Bangladesh. This summit was inaugurated by State Minister for Cultural Affairs of Bangladesh KM Khalid. More than 500 artists, sculptors, architects and art professionals from various countries are participating in the Summit. The Summit will also feature live events, panel discussions and puppet shows among other things. This year’s programmes also include a special exhibition on the life of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to pay tribute to Bangabandhu on the occasion of his birth centenary. Dhaka Art Summit is the premier art festival of Bangladesh.

 The World Sustainable Summit 2020 is an annual event organized by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) at New Delhi. This year theme of the event is: ‘Towards 2030: Making the Decade Count’. The Summit includes Sustainable Action Dialogues, Regional dialogues, corporate conclaves, IFAT Delhi 2020 (Exhibition of Clean Technologies), Youth Volunteer Programmes. The event has become a premier international event focusing on developing actions.
