  World Ocean Day is observed globally on 8th June every year. This day is observed to raise global awareness about the importance of the ocean in our lives and the ways through which we can protect it. The theme of UN World Oceans Day 2020 is “Innovation for a Sustainable Ocean.” Innovation—relating to the introduction of the latest methods, ideas, or products—is a dynamic term and one that is fundamentally filled with hope.

 United Nations celebrates Russian Language Day every year on 6 June to raise awareness of the history, culture and development of each of the six official languages of the UN: Arabic, Russian, Spanish, Chinese, English and French. Hence the day is celebrated by UN as part of program to support and develop multilingualism and cultural diversity and to maintain the equality of all six official languages of the UN.

 International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression is observed globally on 4th June every year. This day affirms the UN’s commitment to guard the rights of children. This day is to acknowledge the pain suffered by children throughout the planet who are the victims of physical, mental and emotional abuse. The main aim of celebrating today is to spread the notice about the pain and sufferings faced by the victims as children.

On August 19, 1982, during an emergency session on the question of Palestine, the UN General Assembly, appalled at the amount of innocent Palestinian and Lebanese child victims of Israel’s acts of aggression, decided to commemorate 4 June of every year because of the International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression.

 United Nations celebrates World Bicycle Day every year on 3rd June to advance the use of the bicycle as a means of fostering sustainable development. The day aims to strengthen education for children and young people, preventing disease, promoting health, promoting tolerance, mutual understanding and respect and facilitating social inclusion and a culture of peace. The World Bicycle Day is being observed every year to encourage member nations to give particular attention to the bicycle in cross-cutting development strategies and to improve road safety and integrate it into sustainable mobility and transport infrastructure planning and design. It also aims to promote the bicycle among all members of society.

  The Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations celebrates World Milk Day every year on 01st June to recognize the importance of milk as a global food, and to celebrate the dairy sector. The World Milk Day 2020 is the 20th anniversary of World Milk Day. This year, the day was celebrated with a “Enjoy Dairy Rally” that commenced on 29th May 2020 and culminated with World Milk Day i.e. on 01st June 2020. The theme of World Milk Day 2020 is “20th Anniversary of World Milk Day”. It aims to encourage people to talk about the advantages of dairy with regards to health including nutrition, accessibility and affordability. It also emphasizes on the role played by dairy sector’s passion and commitment towards feeding our communities.

 United Nations celebrates Global Day of Parents on 1st of June every year to honour all the parents throughout the world. The Global Day of Parents recognizes the primary responsibility of the family in nurturing and protecting their children. Hence, the day acknowledge the selfless commitment of all parents for their children including their lifelong sacrifice towards nurturing this relationship. The Global Day of Parents emphasizes on the critical role of parents in the rearing of children. The day was designated by the General Assembly in 2012 to honour all the parents throughout the world.

  India celebrates 7th of March every year as Jan Aushadhi Diwas. The days aims to create awareness and providing thrust to the use of generic medicines. On the occasion of Jan Aushadhi Diwas, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will have an interaction event with seven Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana Kendras through the video conferencing. The message of the Prime Minister will also be telecasted at every Jan Aushadhi outlet. Janaushadhi Kendras is the world’s biggest retail pharma chain having around 6,200 outlets in 700 districts of the country. It also provides a good source of self-employment with sustainable and regular earnings. The first Jan Aushadhi Diwas was celebrated on 7th of March 2019.

 Every year, March 8th is marked as International Women’s Day. It was first proposed by the Socialist Party of America in 1909. However, it was pertained to New York City. The first International Women’s Day was marked first in 1909.

  • Women’s Day in India
For the first time in Indian history, women visiting monuments under Archaeological Survey of India are to be provided with free pass. This is being done to signify Indian Culture’s respect for women. Women are being worshipped as goddess in Indian Culture. PM Modi is to provide access to his social media account on IWD to inspiring women. The GoI has also initiated serious of actions including telecasting 14 women-oriented films, commemorating women members of constituent assembly, etc.

  National Safety Day is celebrated on 4 March to commemorate the foundation of the National Safety Council to raise awareness about the safety measures to prevent mishaps and accidents due to lack of awareness. The Campaign is aimed at renewing the commitment of employees and the general public to work safely throughout the year. The ultimate objective of the Campaign is to ensure integration of OSH in work culture and lifestyle.

  • History of National Safety Council of India:
The Ministry of Labour, Government of India set up the National Safety Council of India (NSC) on 4 March 1966. To develop and sustain the movement on SHE that is focusing on safety, Health and Environment at the national level. Basically, NSC is an autonomous body. Therefore, the foundation day of the National Safety Council was decided to observe as National Safety Day in 1972. It was also decided to celebrate it as National Safety Week (NSW) Campaign that will last for one week.

 World Hearing Day is observed globally on 3rd of March every year to raise awareness on how to prevent deafness and hearing loss and promote ear and hearing care across the world. The theme of 2020 World Hearing Day is “Hearing for life. Don’t let hearing loss limit you”. It highlights that timely and effective
