  The facility for instant allotment of Permanent Account Number (PAN) has been formally launched by the Union Minister for Finance & Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman. This facility has been rolled out on near to real time basis. The PAN applicants who has a valid Aadhaar number and have a mobile number registered with Aadhaar will be able to avail the recently launched facility. After the launch of this new facility, the allotment process is paperless and an electronic PAN (e-PAN) will be issued to the applicants free of cost. Launching this facility will create further ease of compliance to the taxpayers.

 An Artificial Intelligence (AI) based chatbot “PAi” has been launched by the National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI). This chatbot has been rolled out to create awareness around NPCI’s products such as FASTag, RuPay, UPI, AePS on a real time basis, hence improving the digital financial inclusion in India. The chatbot “PAi” has been developed by Bengaluru based startup CoRover Private Limited. The AI virtual assistant “PAi” would have access to accurate information on products of NPCI and would be available round the clock to solve the queries of the customers in English and Hindi, via text or voice on the websites of NPCI, RuPay, and UPI Chalega. It would also be available to global RuPay Cardholders as well. PAi will give verified automated responses to the customer’s queries on all NPCI’s products.

 Marcos Troyjo has been elected as next President of New Development Bank (NDB). He was unanimously elected during the Special Board of Governors meeting of the NDB which was held through the video-conference. He will be taking charge as the President of NDB from July 7, 2020. India was represented by the Union Minister of Finance & Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman in the video-conference.
The prime objective of the meeting of Special Board of Governors meeting of the New Development Bank was the election of next President of NDB including the appointment of Vice-President, Chief Risk Officer and the membership expansion. Following appointments were made during the virtual conference: 
  • Marcos Troyjo from Brazil has been elected as next President of NDB.
  • Anil Kishora from India has been elected as next Vice President and CRO of the NDB.

 India’s leading web-based business commercial centre Flipkart has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Karnataka State Mango Department and Marketing Corporation, to empower mango farmers to sell their produce online. This association will give farmers the genuinely necessary market access to shoppers, making a potential income stream during these testing times of coronavirus. As a part of the MoU, Flipkart will give its marketplace platform to the Mango Board farmer producer associations/venders, cultivators and dealers by selecting them on the platform. Flipkart has collaborated with different Fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) and retail organizations to welcome a more extensive scope of essentials on its platform. With this association, the organization invasions into the farmer producer organisation’s community further adding to supporting the jobs of mango producers and the farmer community.

 Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) has launched a “WhatsApp chatbot” to address rights issue queries of its 2.6 million shareholders on the offering. With a task of executing massive Rs 53,125 crore rights issue amid a nationwide lockdown, RIL has turned to WhatsApp Chatbot which has been developed by Jio Haptik Technologies. This chatbot is the first one which has been rolled out for a public offering and is available on WhatsApp. As with the lockdown it would have been difficult to manage sufficient call centre service, this chatbot will address the queries of the shareholders such as: important dates related to its rights issue, rights entitlement a shareholder is eligible for, how to trade their rights entitlement, and what to do if one has physical shares and sample forms, etc.

 The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has been penalised with amount of Rs 7 lakh by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). SEBI has imposed the penalty on NHAI for delay in disclosing half yearly financial results between FY16 and FY19. The penalty has been imposed on the basis of SEBI’s listing obligation and disclosure norms (LODR) according to which half yearly results have to be filed within 45 days from the end of the half year. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) delayed in disclosing half yearly financial results ranging from 4 days to 78 days.

 Airtel Payments Bank has collaborated with Mastercard to create customised financial products for Indian farmers and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). These financial products particularly for those territories where there is less access to bank administrations. The coordinated effort will unite Mastercard’s worldwide and nearby involvement with developing advanced financial solutions and Airtel Payments Bank’s circulation system to arrive at the last mile and its large customer base. The association targets constructing a computerized stage which gives farmers information about advanced farming techniques and association with commercial centres, while at the same time empowering them to receive payments directly in their Airtel Payments Bank account.

 Indian-American IBM scientist, Rajiv Joshi has bagged the prestigious NYIPLA “Inventor of the Year award” for the year 2020. This award is given for his contribution to advancing the electronic industry and improving artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities. Dr Joshi works at the IBM Thomson Watson Research Center in New York. This award is presented by the New York Intellectual Property Law Association (NYIPLA). The inventor of the year is awarded every year to honour the contribution of an inventor towards society and the winner will be awarded $5,000.

 Indian Army officer Major Suman Gawani is going to be awarded the UN Military Gender Advocate of the Year 2019. This will be the first time that an Indian Peace Guard will be awarded this award. Major Suman was stationed in South Sudan under the United Nations Mission. Recently she has completed her mission. Gawani joined the Indian Army in 2011 where she graduated from the Officers Training Academy, then joined the Army Signal Corps. She hails from Pokhar village in Tehri Garwhal, Uttarakhand. The award is going to be presented to Major Suman Gawani and Brazilian military officer Commander Carla Monteiro de Castro Araujo during a web ceremony chaired by UN Secretary-General Guterres on May 29, the International Day of the United Nations Peacekeepers. These two women peacekeepers were described as “powerful role models” by the UN Chief Antonio Guterres. Major Suman Gawani is that the first Indian peacekeeper to win the award. She is a Military Observer, formerly deployed to the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS). Military Supervisor Suman Gawani has recently completed a mission in South Sudan in addition to his tenure with UNMISS.

 Power Finance Corporation (PFC), the central PSU under Ministry of Power has signed an MoU with Narmada Basin Projects Company Ltd. (NBPCL), a wholly-owned company of Govt. of Madhya Pradesh, to fund various power projects to be executed in the State of Madhya Pradesh. The funds of worth Rs 22,000 crore will be deployed by NBPCL for setting up hydroelectric projects of 225 MW along with power components of 12 other major multipurpose projects to be executed in Madhya Pradesh. Some of the major multipurpose projects for which PFC has signed MoU with NBPCL includes Chinki Boras Multipurpose Project Narsinghpur Raisen Hoshangabad, Dudhi Project Chhindwara Hoshangabad, Basaniya Multipurpose Project Dindori, Sakkar Pench Link Narsinghpur Chhindwara etc.
