 The government has appointed Shaktikanta Das as the new RBI governor, a day after Urjit Patel resigned as RBI Governor. He is the 25th Governor of the Reserve Bank of India. A former economic affairs secretary from 2015 to 2017, Das worked closely with the central bank. He is currently a member of the Finance Commission of India, and the government’s representative at the Group of 20 summits.

  Atul Sahai has been appointed as the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of the country’s largest general insurance company New India Assurance. The post had been lying vacant since July 2018 after former chairman and managing director G Srinivasanretired. The appointments committee of the cabinet announced that Sahai who is the General Manager at Oriental Insurance will be appointed for a period of five years. Sahai’s name was recommended by the department of financial services after interviews were held for the position almost three months back.

  Rashtriya Lok Samta Party (RLSP) Chief Upendra Kushwaha resigned as Union Minister of State in the Ministry of Human Resource Development. This comes a day ahead of the start of the Parliament’s Winter Session, triggering a realignment of political equations in Bihar.

 Flipkart-owned Myntra’s CEO Ananth Narayanan has resigned from his role with his position set to be abolished. Flipkart’s Amar Nagaram has been given the responsibility to head Myntra. Key Myntra leaders such as Chief Revenue Officer Mithun Sundar and human resources head Manpreet Ratia have also resigned.

  A day before the results of polling in the five states, Reserve Bank of India governor Urjit Patel stepped down from his post.  Patel, who cited “personal reasons” behind his decision, was in a conflict with the Union finance ministry over matters related to the monetary policy.

 US President Donald Trump nominated State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauertas the US Ambassador to the United Nations. The former Fox News presenter’s appointment to the UN role will have to be approved by the US Senate. Nauert will replace Nikki Haley, who will be leaving the post by the end of 2018. She became the State Department’s spokeswoman in April 2017 and was named as the acting undersecretary for public diplomacy and public affairs in early 2018.

  A former senior Indian diplomat, Preeti Saran, has been elected unopposed to an Asia Pacific seat on the UN’s Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (CESCR). Saran was elected to the CESCR for a four-year term beginning on the 1st of January 2019. All States are obliged to submit regular reports to the committee on how the rights are being implemented. The committee examines each report and addresses its concerns and recommendations to the State party in the form of concluding observations. The panel meets in Geneva and holds two sessions per year.

 The government appointed Dr. Krishnamurthy Subramanian as the new Chief Economic Advisor. Dr. Subramanian will have a tenure of three years. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has cleared his name. He is currently working as an Associate Professor at the Indian School of Business, Hyderabad. A Ph.D. from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and a top-ranking IIT-IIM alumnus, Subramanian is one of the world’s leading experts in banking, corporate governance and economic policy.

 Leading Investment Bank Axis Capital announced that its MD & CEO Dharmesh Mehta has stepped down. The bank has elevated Salil Pitale and Chirag Negandhi as Joint Managing Directors and Co-Chief Executive Officer. Pitale and Negandhi’s appointment will be with immediate effect.

 State Bank of India has roped in Asian Games gold medalist Swapna Barman as brand ambassador for its digital app YONO. YONO, the bank’s digital platform that makes both lifestyle and banking available through a single app, was launched exactly a year back. Swapna won Gold medal in Heptathlon in Jakarta Asian Games with a score of 6026 and is looking to break the 6200 score barrier to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
