    [a] The Attorney General is provided for in Article 76 of the Constitution, while the Solicitor General is a non-constitutional body subordinate to the Attorney General, who assists the Attorney General in his functions. The Solicitor General in turn is assisted by the several additional solicitor generals. The Attorney General is the government's chief legal advisor and its primary lawyer in the Supreme Court. The solicitor General and the Additional Solicitor general however, also advise the government on legal matters and appear for the Government of India in court cases.
