ASSERTION: If a bar magnet made of iron is melted it loses its magnetism.
REASON: Liquid and gases cannot be Ferro-magnetic.

    A) If both assertion and reason are true and reason is the correct explanation of assertion.

    B) If both assertion and reason are true and reason is not the correct explanation of assertion.

    C) If assertion is true but reason is false.

    D) If both assertion and reason are false.

    E) If assertion is false but reason is true.

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

The Curie temperature of iron is about \[770{}^\circ C\]and the melting point of iron \[1536{}^\circ C\]. As the melting point is much higher than its curie temperature, iron which is ferromagnetic at normal temperature becomes paramagnetic in melten state. Since the temperature of molten iron is very high the thermal motion is so violet that the alignment of the individual magnet is destroyed. Liquids and gases cannot be ferromagnetic.
