Why does not acetophenone give iodoform test?

    Answer:

Acetophenone being a methyl ketone is expected to respond to iodoform test which involves \[{{I}_{2}}\]and \[NaOH\]. However, it does not. Acetophenone does have an \[\alpha \]-hydrogen atom (\[-C{{H}_{3}}\] group) but it leads to tautomerism. This means that the substitution of the hydrogen atoms of methyl group by atoms of iodine is not possible. Therefore, acetophenone does not give iodoform test.
