*     Using Tools

 

Using the different tool on the toolbar, you can create different shapes and give an artistic effect to your drawings. Suppose you want to make a birthday card for your friend. You can do this job with the help of Paint Brush.  

 

 

 

*      Drawing Boxes  

You can use the Rectangle tool to draw rectangular shapes like boxes.  

 

*      Steps are the following:  

  • Click Rectangle.                        

 

 

  • Click a colour in the Colour box. 

 

 

  • Then click a rectangle style in the options box just below the toolbar. You can create a coloured fill by clicking a fill style can just use the outline option.

 

 

  • To draw a rectangle/drag the pointer diagonally in the direction you want. v  To draw a square, hold down shift while dragging.  

 

*    Drawing a Free-form Line  

It is not necessary that your picture should have only straight lines. You can use the Pencil tool to draw thin, free form lines or  curves.  

 

 

 

 

 

*      The following are the steps:  

  • Click Pencil  

 

 

  • Click a colour in the Colour box.
  • Drag the pointer in the picture to draw.  

 

*    Drawing a Straight Line  

You can use the Line tool to draw a straight line. (See Figure 3.9.6)

 

 

 

  

*      The following are the steps:

  • Click Line.
  • Click a line width in the options box just below the toolbar.
  • Click a colour in the Colour box.
  • Drag the pointer in the picture to draw the line.
  • Use the left mouse button to draw with the foreground colour.
  • To draw a line using the background colour, right-click while you drag the pointer.
  • You can draw a perfectly horizontal, vertical or diagonal line by holding down shift while dragging.  

 

 

*      Drawing an Ellipse or Circle

You can use the Ellipse tool to make ellipses and circles. (See Figure 3.9.7)

 

 

 

*    To make an ellipse perform the following steps:

Click Ellipse.

 

 

  • Click a colour in the Colour box.
  • Click a fill style in the options box just below the toolbar.
  • To draw an ellipse, drag the pointer diagonally.
  • To draw a circle, hold down the shift key while dragging.  

 

 

*    Erasing and Undoing Just as you use an eraser to rub off what you don't want while doing homework, you can use the Eraser tool to erase areas of your picture.  

 

 

*      Steps are as below:

 

 

  

  • Click Eraser.
  • Click an eraser size below the toolbox.
  • Drag the Eraser over the area of the picture that you want to erase. (Any areas that you erase will be replaced by the background colour.) (See Figure 3.9.8) Another alternative to undo a mistake is to select the Undo option from the Edit menu. The Undo command remembers the last action you performed and returns you to where you were before.  

 

*      Drawing a Polygon

 Suppose you want a star or a triangle in your drawing. In Paint Brush you can even draw a polygon (a shape with many sides). You can use the Polygon tool to make a shape with any number of sides. (See Figure 3.9.9)

 

 

 

*      The following are the steps:

Click Polygon.

 

 

  • Click a colour in the Colour box.
  • Click a polygon style in the options box just below the toolbar.
  • To draw a polygon, drag the pointer to draw a straight line.
  • Then, click each point where you want additional sides to appear.
  • Double-click when you have finished.
  • To create sides with 45 - or 90 - degree angles, hold down shift while making the sides.
