Output Devices

Category : 2nd Class

*       Output Devices

Output devices are the part of computer hardware equipment?s that are used to communicate the results of data processing carried out by an information processing system (such as a computer) to the outside world (such as a user). Output devices are the medium of communication between the computer and the user.

Using output devices, you can see results like pictures on the screen, sound or music, printed results on paper, etc. The common output devices are the monitor, speakers, headphones and printers.

These are the examples for Output Devices

*    Monitor

The monitor shows words, numbers, pictures and movies on the screen.

*    Speaker

 The speakers play sound from the computer.

*    Plotter

The plotter is a computer printing device for printing graphics.

*    Headphones

 The headphones help us to listen to music and sounds.

*    Printer

The printer helps us to print our work in the computer on paper. Printers are of different kinds such as daisy-wheel printers, laser printers and dot matrix printers. From the list of output devices given above, the monitor or VDU is the standard output device, without which the computer will not run. The other parts are optional and only provide additional features.

Question.jpg

 Computer performs many functions. The device which shows the result after the completion of work by computer is called _________device.

(A) Input

(B) Output

(C) Operations

(D) Processing

Answer: (B)

Explanation

Correct Option:

(B) Output device shows us the result after completion of work by the computer.

Incorrect Options:

(A) Input: Input device helps us in feeding the instruction

(C) Operating: System helps in operating the devices

(D) Processing: CPU helps in processing the data.

 There are many storage devices that are kept away from the computer and inserted when required .Which one of the following is the storehouse available inside the system unit of a computer?

(B) Floppy Disk

(C)  Compact Disk

(D) Pen Drive

Answer: (A)

Explanation

Correct Option

(A) Hard Disk is the storehouse available inside the system unit of a computer

Incorrect Options:

(B) Floppy Disk:  is an outer storage device

(C) Compact Disk: is a storage device.

(D) Pen drive: Storage device.

You Know.jpg

  • Floppy disks and CD ROM are the two devices which are both input as well as output devices.
  • In computer jargon, a temporary copy of the result (like the screen) is called a soft copy and the permanent copy (like the printer) is called the hard copy.
  • The microprocessor is simply referred to as the Chip.

Important.jpg

  • Backup: To copy files to a second medium (a disk or tape) as a precaution in case the first medium fails.
  • CD ROM: A compact disc with one or more metal layers capable of storing digital information.
  • Dot Matrix printer: A dot matrix printer or impact matrix printer is a type of  computer printer with a print head that runs back and forth or in up and down motion on the page and prints by impact.
  • Floppy disks: A data storage medium that is composed of a disk of thin, flexible magnetic storage medium encased in a square or rectangular plastic shell.
  • Joystick: A joystick is an input device consisting of a stick and is often used to control video games.
  • Light Pen: An input device that utilizes a light-sensitive detector to select objects on a display screen.
  • Microprocessor: A microprocessor incorporates most or all of the functions of a computer's CPU (Central Processing Unit) on a single integrated circuit.
  • Output: In human - computer interaction, output is information produced by the computer program and received by the user.
  • Printer: A device which produces a hard copy (permanent readable text and/or graphics) of documents stored in electronic form, usually on physical print media such as paper.
  • Tape: A magnetically coated strip of plastic on which data can be encoded.
  • Tracker ball: A pointing device consisting of a ball similar to an upside-down mouse.

Summary.jpg

  • Input and Output devices are the machines used with computer to complete a given Task/job. With the help of these devices we can print, listen to music, play games, etc.
    All the processing work in the computer is done by the CPU.
