                    General stains for chromosome staining are acetocarmine (pink), leucobasic fuchsin or Warm Schiffs reagent (pink), crystal violet (violet), carbol fuchsin (magenta), Gomoris haemaioxylon (violet). Safranin (pink) is used for staining of lignified wall and nuclei, fast (light), green (green) for cellulose and cytoplasm, while cosine and neutral red for cytoplasm and cellulose.
