A rocket of mass 100 kg bums 0.1 kg of fuel per sec. If velocity of exhaust gas is 1 km/s, then it lifts with an acceleration of

    A)  \[1000\,\text{m}{{\text{s}}^{-2}}\]

    B)  \[100\,\text{m}{{\text{s}}^{-2}}\]

    C)  \[10\,\text{m}{{\text{s}}^{-2}}\]

    D)  \[\text{1}\,\text{m}{{\text{s}}^{\text{2}}}\]

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

                     Given that, \[\frac{dm}{dt}=0.1\,kg/s;\]mass of the rocket = 100 kg and v = 1 km/s = 1000 m/s. Thrust on the rocket, \[F=v\frac{dm}{dt}\] \[=1000\times 0.1\]                 Now,                     \[F=Ma\]                 \[\therefore \]                  \[a=\frac{1000\times 0.1}{100}\]                                                 \[=\,m/{{s}^{2}}\]
