    Mitosis can be inhibited by

    A) auxin

    B) colchicine

    C) cyclins

    D) insulin

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

Colchicine inhibits the formation of mitotic spindle and holds the cells in metaphase. The chromosomes and DNA replicates but remain within the parent cell. Nucleus does not divide This causes increase in number of chromosome per cell, i.e. endopolyploidy or endomitosis in which nucleus contains multiple sets of chromosomes. Insulin and auxin are mitogens, i.e. mitosis inducing agents. Cyclihs are proteins that activate kinase to regulate eukaryotic cell cycle.
