There is a clock which gives correct time at  \[\text{20}{{\,}^{\text{o}}}\text{C}\]is subjected to \[\text{40}{{\,}^{\text{o}}}\text{C}\] The coefficient of linear expansion of the pendulum is \[12\times {{10}^{-6}}\]per \[{{\,}^{o}}C\] how much is gain or loss in time?

    A)  10.3 s/day

    B)  19s/day

    C)  5.5 s/day

    D)  6.8 s/day

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

     \[\frac{\Delta l}{t}=\frac{1}{2}\frac{\Delta L}{L}=\frac{1}{2}\propto \Delta \theta \] \[=\frac{1}{2}\times 12\times {{10}^{-6}}\times ({{40}^{o}}-{{20}^{o}})\] \[=12\times {{10}^{-5}}\] \[\Delta t=t\times 12\times {{10}^{-5}}\] \[=86400\times 12\times {{10}^{-5}}\] \[=10.3\,s/day\]
