  • question_answer
The correct order of boiling point of ethyl dimethyl amine , n-butyl amine  and diethyl amineis

    A) \[B>C>A\]

    B) \[B>A>C\]

    C) \[A>B>C\]

    D) \[C>B>A\]

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Among \[{{1}^{o}},{{2}^{o}}\] and \[{{3}^{o}}\] amines, the primary amine has the maximum strength to form the  H-bond. The dipole-dipole attraction force also works between these molecules, hence the boiling point of primary amine is maximum. Between \[{{2}^{o}}\] and \[{{3}^{o}}\] amine, the tertiary amines does not from H-bond while secondary amine has some strength to form bond. \[\text{H}-\text{bond}\text{.}\]                           Hence, the order of boiling point is as    \[\underset{\begin{smallmatrix}  n-butyl\,a\min e \\  \,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,{{1}^{o}}a\min e  \\  \,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,(B) \end{smallmatrix}}{\mathop{{{C}_{4}}{{H}_{9}}N{{H}_{2}}}}\,>\underset{\begin{smallmatrix}  diethyl\,a\min e \\  \,\,\,\,{{2}^{o}}\,a\min e  \\  \,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,(C) \end{smallmatrix}}{\mathop{{{({{C}_{2}}{{H}_{5}})}_{2}}NH}}\,\] \[\underset{\begin{smallmatrix}  ethyl\,\dimethyl\,a\min e \\  \,\,\,\,\,\,{{3}^{o}}\,a\min e  \\  \,\,\,\,\,\,(A) \end{smallmatrix}}{\mathop{>\,{{C}_{2}}{{H}_{5}}N{{(C{{H}_{3}})}_{2}}}}\,\]
