In some cladocerans, such as Daphnia dubia and Daphnia retrocurva, the head progressively changes from a rounded, compact shape to a painted, helmet-like, shape between spring and mid-summer. Cyclomorphosis may also involve lengthening the tail spine on the carapace and producing lateral teeth on the head.
