    Assertion: Conjugation is a temporary union between two ciliates belonging to two different mating types for the exchange and reconstitution of nuclear materials.     Solution :

    Conjugation is a method of sexual reproduction involving the fusion of similar gamete, which are not freed from the parent forms, as in ciliates where two individuals fuse together, exchange micronuclear material and then separate. Conjugation also occurs in some algae, eg, Spirogyra and fungi, eg, Mucor.
