    According to the chromosomal theory of sex determination, the chromosomes in an organism are of two types, ie, autosomes and sex-chromosomes. The autosomes are similar in both the sex and control somatic characters whereas the sex-chromosomes in one sex are homomorphic and in other sex heteromorphic. The heterochromatic sex chromosome determine the sex of the progency. X-chromosome is long, metacentric and contain large amount of euchromatin. It is present in both male and female. Y-chromosome is long, hooked or bent acrocentric and contain more amount of heterochromatin. It is present only in male.
