The potential on the hollow sphere of radius1 m is 1000 V, then potential at \[\frac{1}{4}\] m from the centre of the sphere is

    A)  1000 V

    B)                                                         500 V

    C)                         250 V

    D)                         Zero

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

For a charged conducting sphere [or shell of charge at surface (r = R)] \[{{V}_{s}}=\frac{1}{4\pi {{\varepsilon }_{0}}}\frac{Q}{R}\] Inside the shell the potential remains constant at all points and equal to potential at the surface \[{{V}_{in}}\,=\cos \tan t\,={{V}_{s}}\]                 \[\therefore \]  \[{{V}_{in}}=1000\,V\]
