Various cytological and biochemical evidences have established that the Golgi apparatus are originated from the membrane of smooth endoplasmic reticulum, which in turn have originated from rough ER. It is assumed normally that the endoplasmic reticulum has originated by evagination of nuclear envelope. Seiketitz and Palade (1960) have reported that granular type of ER (rough) orginated first and smooth ER later. Several hypothesis have been postulated for origin of mitochondria (i) Origin from ER or plasma membrane (Morrison) (ii) By division of pre exisiting mitochondria. The lysosomes are tiny membrane bound vesicles involved in intracellular digestion. These are absent in plant cell.
