    Quantasomes are found in

    A) mitochondria

    B) chloroplast

    C) lysosome

    D)        endoplasmic reticulum

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

Park, Pon (1961) and later Park while Biggins (1964) reported quantasome on the inner wall of thylakoid of chloroplast. It was considered as basic photosynthetic unit. It contains about 230 chlorophyll molecules. Elementary particles or oxysomes are attached to M face of inner mitochondrial membrane. These are meant for ATP synthesis and also for ATP oxidation. The endoplasmic reticulum is a network of much branched elaborate system of membrane bound cavities or lumen extending from nucleus to plasma membrane in the cytoplasm. It (RER) is meant of for protein synthesis. The lysosomes are tiny membrane bound vesicles involved in intracellular digestion. They contain a variety of hydrolytic enzymes that remain active under acidic condition.
