  • question_answer
Two capacitors of capacities C and 2C are connected in parallel and then connected in series with a third capacitor of capacity 3C. The combination is charged with V volt. The charge on capacitor of capacity C is

    A)  \[2\text{ }CV\]

    B)  \[CV\]

    C)  \[2\text{ }CV\]

    D)  \[\frac{3}{2}CV\]

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Clearly, the potential difference V gets equally divided between the parallel combination (or C and 2C) and capacitor of capacity 3C. Also, in parallel combination, the potential difference across each individual capacitor is the same as the potential difference across  he combination. So, potential difference across capacitor of capacity C is \[\frac{V}{2}\]. \[\therefore \] Charge on capacitor of capacity C is \[\frac{CV}{2}\]
