The term 'Domestic Content Requirement' is sometimes seen in the news with reference to

    A)  Developing solar power production in our country

    B)  Granting licences to foreign TV channels in our country

    C)  Exporting our food products to other countries.

    D)  Permitting foreign educational institutions to set-up their campuses in our country

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Exp. [a] The World Trade Organisation's Appellate Body has declared Domestic Content Requirements (DCRs) in India's Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM) as illegal. The WTO disputes panel also ruled that India's subsidies for solar power contravene WTO trade rules and India must remove the subsidies or face trade sanction. In 2013, the US brought a complaint before the WTO arguing that the Domestic Content Requirement imposed under India's national solar programme is in violation of the global trading rules. Specifically, it said, India has violated its 'national treatment' obligation by unfavourably discriminating against imported solar cells and modules.
