    How does the perception and attitude of the villagers of Raveloe change towards Silas Marner from the beginning to the end of the novel?

    Answer:

    The villagers? perception underwent a change towards Silas in proportion to the changes that he went through. Initally, Silas was scary, enigmatic, even mean and unapproachable. This was because he himself had made him unapproachable; isolated and prone to enigma, with his attitude towards people and his lack of interest in being part of the community.             But when the gold was stolen, he lost his mind. He went out of the house and ended up at the Rainbow Inn, in a panic attack causing unrest among those present.             When he calmed down, he broke down and laid bare his heart. His pain was so genuine and his frustration was so evident that the people were moved. They found the real Silas who had hit rock bottom. They were touched and identified.             Themselves with him and offered their condolences and help that proved that Silas was one of them, a part of their village.

    Mr. Griffin and Dr. Kemp are brilliant scientists.             However, in temperament they are poles apart. Unlike Kemp who is a law abiding citizen and a right thinking scientist, Dr. Griffin is critiable, impatient and unscrupulous.             When Griffin enters Dr. Kemp?s house accidentally, after he runs away from ?The Jolly Cricketers,? Griffin realizes that he is his senior from the same college.             After listening to his story of how he became invisible, we find Dr. Kemp to be a sensitive individual. He listens to his story pertinently and offers him the best of hospitality. He offers food and drinks and his own bed to him to sleep on. However, he becomes suspicious especially after reading the papers. He decides to write a letter to Col. Adye about the invisible man in his house. We find Dr. Kemp to be a law abiding citizen who wants to protect the people of Burdok. He does not want the people to suffer the reign of terror that would be unleashed by Griffin.             Dr. Kemp is a man full of kindness and compassion. He puts his life on risk to save his country from falling into the trap of the wicked Griffin.             Silas Marner was an straight forward, simple, hardworking weaver. He was very religious and was considered as a man of exemplary life and ardent faith. He was considered a lovely miser even when he lost faith in the church and in the people. He suffers from cataleptic fits which is misunderstood by the people as a connection with the devil.
