For a gas, if ratio of specific heat is 7. If gas constant is R, then the value of specific heat at constant volume will be

    A)  \[\frac{R}{(\gamma -1)}\]

    B)  \[\frac{R}{\gamma +1}\]

    C)  \[\frac{R}{\gamma }\]

    D)  \[R(\gamma -1)\]

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

     From Mayor's formula \[{{C}_{p}}-{{C}_{V}}=R\]                 ...(i) and            \[\frac{{{C}_{p}}}{{{C}_{V}}}=\gamma \]                ...(ii) From Eqs. (i) and (ii) \[{{C}_{V}}(\gamma -1)=R\] \[{{C}_{V}}=\frac{R}{\gamma -1}\]
