MGIMS WARDHA MGIMS WARDHA Solved Paper-2003

  • question_answer
If the temperature of a black body is doubled, the wavelength at which the spectral radiancy has its maximum, is :

    A)  doubled

    B) halved

    C) quadrupled

    D) unchanged

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

    From Wein's displacement law, \[{{\lambda }_{m}}T=cons\tan t\] \[\Rightarrow \]               \[{{\lambda }_{m}}T=\lambda {{'}_{m}}T\] \[\Rightarrow \]               \[\lambda {{'}_{m}}=\frac{{{\lambda }_{m}}T}{T'}\] \[\Rightarrow \]               \[\lambda {{'}_{m}}=\frac{{{\lambda }_{m}}T}{2T}\] \[\therefore \]  \[\lambda {{'}_{m}}=\frac{{{\lambda }_{m}}}{2}\] Hence, wavelength will be halved
