MGIMS WARDHA MGIMS WARDHA Solved Paper-2003

  • question_answer
Two spherical shells one which is placed in air has constant charge \[{{Q}_{1}}.\] and the other which is placed in a medium of dielectric constant K has a charge \[{{Q}_{2}}.\] The ratio of forces between the shells is:

    A) \[K:1\]

    B) \[1:K\]

    C) \[{{K}^{2}}:1\]

    D) \[1:{{K}^{2}}\]

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

    Force between two charges\[{{Q}_{1}}\]and\[{{Q}_{2}}\]is given by \[{{F}_{1}}=\frac{1}{4\pi {{\varepsilon }_{0}}}\frac{{{Q}_{1}}{{Q}_{2}}}{{{r}^{2}}}\]                 ???..(1) Now, dielectric is filled between two shells, then force \[{{F}_{2}}=\frac{1}{4\pi {{\varepsilon }_{0}}K}\frac{{{Q}_{1}}{{Q}_{2}}}{{{r}^{2}}}\]               ???...(2) From Eqs. (1) and (2), we get \[\frac{{{F}_{1}}}{{{F}_{2}}}=\frac{1}{4\pi {{\varepsilon }_{0}}}\frac{{{Q}_{1}}{{Q}_{2}}}{{{r}^{2}}}\times \frac{4\pi {{\varepsilon }_{0}}K{{r}^{2}}}{{{Q}_{1}}{{Q}_{2}}}=\frac{K}{1}\] \[{{F}_{1}}:{{F}_{2}}=K:1\]
