JIPMER Jipmer Medical Solved Paper-1999

  • question_answer
For the reaction A + B\[\xrightarrow{{}}\]products, doubling the concentration of A, the rate of the reaction is doubled, but on doubling the concentration of B rate remains unaltered. The over-all order of the reaction is:

    A)  1

    B)                                         0

    C)  2

    D)         3

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

    From the question, it is clear that rate \[\propto \][A] (as on doubling [A], rate also get doubled) and   rate \[\propto \] [B]° (i.e., independent of [B]) Hence, rate \[\propto \] [A] [B]° = k [A] [B]° Hence, the order of reaction = sum of powers of concentration is rate-law = 1 + 0 = 1
