JIPMER Jipmer Medical Solved Paper-1998

  • question_answer
The rate constant for a reaction is\[2.3\times {{10}^{-3}}\,{{\sec }^{-1}}\]. What will be the half-life of that reaction?

    A)  \[\approx \]3 minutes

    B)  \[\approx \]5 minutes

    C)  \[\approx \]6 minutes

    D)  cannot be determined

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

Given rate constant \[(K)=2.3\times {{10}^{-3}}{{\sec }^{-1}}\] From the unit of rate constant, it is clear that reaction is of \[{{I}^{st}}\] order. For \[{{I}^{st}}\] order reactions, we know that \[{{t}_{1/2}}=\frac{0.693}{K}=\frac{0.693}{2.3\times {{10}^{-3}}}\]      \[=301.3\,\,\sec \approx 300\,\,\sec \]      \[\approx 5\,\text{minutes}\]
