What is obtained, when borax is strongly heated on a platinum loop?

    A)  \[N{{a}_{2}}{{B}_{4}}{{O}_{7}}\]

    B)  \[N{{a}_{3}}B{{O}_{3}}\]

    C)         \[NaB{{O}_{2}}\]

    D)         None of these

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

When borax \[(N{{a}_{2}}{{B}_{4}}{{O}_{7}}\cdot 10\,{{H}_{2}}O)\]is strongly heated on a platinum loop, it forms a colourless bead of sodium metaborate, which give different colours with different basic radicals. Hence, it is used in dry test of them \[N{{a}_{2}}{{B}_{4}}{{O}_{7}}\cdot 10{{H}_{2}}O\xrightarrow{\Delta }\underset{\text{Borax}\,\text{bead}}{\mathop{2NaB{{O}_{2}}+{{B}_{2}}{{O}_{3}}}}\,+10{{H}_{2}}O\]
