In fact several other countries played a game like football for many centuries. Before that the Chinese played Tsu- Chu over 2000 years ago. Tsu means 'to kick' and Chu means the ball. Before the 19th century and after, hundreds of people played football at home. This game was very often dangerous and was therefore, declared illegal. In the 19th century the game was popular   in English schools and Universities. Finally, in 1863 a group of people started a football association. The word soccer comes from the word association and in England many people called the game by this name. Today football is the most popular game in many countries of the world such as Australia, Spain, India and China.
