JIPMER Jipmer Medical Solved Paper-1998

  • question_answer
\[A\,\xrightarrow{HN{{O}_{3}}/AgN{{O}_{3}}}\] white precipitate An organic compound A give this reaction. Compound A may be:

    A)  \[N{{H}_{4}}Cl\]

    B)

    C)         \[C{{H}_{2}}=CH\cdot Cl\]

    D)

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

Vinyl chloride and chlorobenzene do not give white precipitate of \[AgCl\] with \[AgN{{O}_{3}}\] solution, as \[Cl\]-atom in them is tightly bonded to carbon. (In both of them resonance is possible). Benzyl chloride is quite reactive and it gives white precipitate with \[AgN{{O}_{3}}\] solution.
