If a galvanometer has a resistance R and carries the current I. What if the shunt resistance which will reduce the current through the galvanometer to \[\frac{1}{10}\]th of its original value?

    A) \[\frac{R}{9}\]

    B)                        \[\frac{R}{10}\]

    C) \[9R\]

    D)        \[10R\]

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

    Using the relation for shunt resistance \[S=\left( \frac{{{i}_{g}}}{i-{{i}_{g}}} \right)G\]                    \[\left\{ \begin{align}   & \text{Here}:\,\,G=R \\  & \text{and}\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\,\frac{{{i}_{g}}}{i}=\frac{1}{10} \\ \end{align} \right.\]     \[=\left( \frac{1}{10-1} \right)R=\frac{R}{9}\]
